Photographer's Note

The Retezat Mountain belongs to the Western (retezat-Godeanu) group of Southen-Carpathiens. It is perhaps the most well-known and popular massif of the South-Eastern range of Carpathians, attracting the greatest number of tourists. It is adjacent to the Hateg basin and the Sureanu Mountains on the North, the Petrosani Basin and the Valcan Mountain on the South. Its Southern main ridge enters the Tulisa Mountains on the Easr; the limestone ridge of the Retezatul Mic(Little Retezat) on the South-West is a transition towords the Godeanu Mountain. The deep valley of the Rau Mare on the West separate the Retezat from the Tarcu Mountain.

The Lake "Tau Portii" is situated at 2230 m high, this lake was formed behind the glacial terrace.
