Photographer’s Note

Făgăraş (German: Fogarasch, Fugreschmarkt, Hungarian: Fogaras) is a city in central Romania, located in Braşov County. It lies on the Olt River and has a population of 35,400 as of 2004.
Although the city has become almost totally Romanian-populated through Saxon and Hungarian emigration, the diverse background is still obvious. The most important attraction points in the city are the fortress, Radu Negru High school, the Reformed Church and the local Catholic church.

The name is alleged to derive from the Romanian word for "beech" (fag). Another source of the name is given by folk etymology to be Hungarian, as the rendering of "wood" (fa) and "money" (garas), with legends stating that money made of wood had been used to pay the peasants who built the fortress around 1310. A more plausible explanation is that the name is a cognate of the slavic word meaning mountain ("gora"). This is supported by the proximity of the Southern Carpatians and the prevalence of topographic names of slavic origin in Transylvania.

I must admit that I was not able to find out the name of the central, water-reflected church.
Făgăraş was one the places that the Romanian members of TE visited during their last meeting, on 10-11 October 2009.

Tu as trouvé un splendide point de vue. Je n'avais même pas remarqué le reflet de l'église. Je devais être distrait. Le reflet est très pur et la composition très élégante.
J'ai été très content de ces quelques jours roumains. Un vrai plaisir.

frumos a fost, dar prea scurt - pentru atate locuri frumoase tb mai mult timp. Cel putin un motiv ca sa revenim!

This is a well composed shot with the reflection adding depth and balance to the shot while the overhanging limps add even more depth to the scene. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness. The dark overhanging limbs provide nice framing for the shot.

Pleasant framing, the hanging branches make a different element in the composition!
The church stands out well as an eye-catcher in the back, effect enhanced by the fine mirror...

Hello Andreea,

I think that I will have sacrificed a little vegetation in top to have all the reflection in bottom… But it is all the same a beautiful photograph with a good choice in the point of view. Good management of the exposure allowing to have a pleasant purity in the reflection. I like the atmosphere that releases itself from the image. Hello Andrea,

a very nice shot. The farming and especially the POV very well slected give a plesant propsect and a great depht to the image. Very good managment of light too which give beautiful contrasts well collected and superb reflections in the water. a very plesanta impression of symetry.

A really fine composition. Wonderful reflections The leaves in the foreground are a very nice framing and it also adds depth works very well as a lead in to the church in the background. Excellent lighting and beautiful colours. TFS and have a nice Sunday evening!
