The Cathedral of Brasov Photo

Photographer’s Note

This a scene from my August 2008 trip to Brasov. I liked a lot that church, the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral "Adormirea Maicii Domnului" (The Dormition of the Virgin/The Assumption of Mary, celebrated on August 15). The cathedral is situated right in the center of the city, in Piata Sfatului (the Council Square).
The building of the cathedral began in 1895 under the direct order of the archpriest Bartolomeu Baiulescu and was finished in 1896. "Adormirea Maicii Domului", the masterpiece of the archimandrite G. Bruss, is a perfect copy of the Greek Church in Vienna. The only difference is the tower built above the parish house, which has elements belonging to the Byzantine style.

Hi Andreea,

Pretty vertiginous low-angle shot I find… The saturated colors are very beautiful and profit from a good estival light bringing of interesting contrasts with this blue sky. I like much this composition. Well done Andreea and thank you for your instructive note.

Hello Andreea,

I like the pointy of view and how you frame the building with the tiny tilt!
Colour palette is eye-catching, with the brown walls contrasting the blue sky...
Inclusion of the image lower right tells what it is all about...!

The POV is really fantastic and you have captured a great view of the "Adormirea Maicii Domnului". The colors are superb and I like the shadows following the diagonal of the image.
