The Large Square(Piata Mare) has been used since the middle ages as a market or a public meeting place, where whiches and thieves were punished(executed or closed in a special "cage of shame").

Nowadays, together with the neighbouring Little Square and Huet Square it is a perfect place to spend your vacation thanks to a large amount of museums and cafes. Major events in Sibiu are also held here, like this weekend, the Circus Festival and the folclore festival "Cantecele Muntilor"(Songs of the mountains)
