Photographer’s Note
Maramures, located in Northern Transylvania, is one of the few areas in this part of the world that was not dominated by the Romans. Combine this with tougher terrain that kept the communist led systematization of small villages out of this region, and you will be welcomed to a land that time truly has forgotten.
The beautiful rural scenery with few paved roads, the astonishing landscapes and the hospitality of the locals create the feeling of a leap in a time machine. It is the home of 8 UNESCO world heritage monuments and traditional crafts such as wood sculpting, ceramics, textiles, traditional costumes and jewelry, each with signature so unique in the world, it cannot be reproduced.
