Dans la nord de la Roumanie, région des Maramures, région "hors du temps" où toutes les traditions sont les plus sauvegardées, cette femme teint la laine, par une chaleur de près de 40 degrés.. une scène de tous les jours, toute simple avec des gens simples.

Et en plus ce n'est pas très sain. belle image de gens simples dans une vie simple. Le rouge qui sort très bien dans la photo et la tête par dessus la palissade donnent un petit "cachet" à la compo.

This image could be 100 years old...I think it would be apt in sepia, but it also looks great as it is...

I like your processing on this - the muted colours fit very well with the subject matter...

Elle est belle aussi, cette photo. Peu m'importe la perte de la qualité en raison du scan dès qu'il y a une telle dimension de la vie dans une image. J'aime aussi les couleurs. Amitiés.

It's unbelievable what you're showing us here. This is a powerful testament to how these people in the villages of Maramures lead their lives. I've never seen an image showing the dying of wool before -- thanks for sharing!

Salut Francine. A very interesting photo from your archives, showing the woman at work tinting the wool. The cloud of steam emerging from the pot, and the intense red color of the wool are fine elements to tell the story of this scene. Good scanning quality and comprehensive framing, I like it.

Hi Francine!
This reminds me of my grandma. She used to do this too. I remember watching her dyeing the wool when I was little. It was very similar to this... outside in the yard, in a large vessel like the one in your photo and most of the time she was dyeing the wool red. Strangely similar...
Nice shot of one of the local traditions that seem to persist against all odds.

Pas mal ce reportage sur ces personnages assez pittoresques de Roumanie. En parcourant tes clichés de ce pays je constate que tu as su capter plusieurs de ses personnages , des visages et des expressions intéressantes.
Ici l'atmosphère est bien rendue, Bravo pour ce bon job et ce partage.

Wow, it's like stepping into history! Nice shot, well-composed. I might prefer it without the head of the second lady, but it is interesting to see the contrast between the working woman and the one who is just watching.

Très intéressante cette méthode de teindre la laine. Ici nous pouvons voir de choses semblables dans des villages historiques où l'on voit teindre la laine avec des couleurs naturelles. Belle photo et bon commentaire.

Ce que j'aime beaucoup dans plusieurs de tes photos, c'est que justement tu nous dépeins la vie quotidienne tout à la fois dans sa simplicité et sa complexité. Je ne sais trop si ça existe vraiment des gens "simples", mais je comprends le sens de ce que tu veux dire. Et ce que tu documentes ici est extrêmement intéressant. Teindre la laine à près de 40 degrés, avec le feu et l'eau bouillante, quel travail épuisant! Travaillant dans le domaine de la santé et sécurité au travail, j'avoue avoir quelques pincements au coeur...
Je ne sais si tu as fait exprès, mais ce rouge est parfait pour ta photo, venant apporter une couleur vive bienvenue.

Dear Francine. I was in Romania many moons ago and I could only wish to have a tiny percent of your vast pictures stash.
Actually, I did have them and I lost them due to some kind of international espionage intrigue, which I was the main actor - obviously, and the truth is that I was out of Marlboro cigarettes to buy back my very own roll of film with the 'spy material' in it.
But then, the Romanian soldier on the border was very nice to me, and only after few pushes and shouts, let me came back to my very own beloved country.
Hey, he was even kind enough to let me to take my family with me into my car!
What a nice man, the man with the golden shoulder patches with few red stars on them.
But that was then, and now is now...
