Photographer’s Note
The "Table of Silence" is part of Constantin Brancusi´s (1876-1957) most important and most famous masterpiece.
In 1938, he finished the World War I monument in Tîrgu-Jiu where he had spent much of his childhood. "Table of Silence", "Gate of the Kiss", and "Endless Column" commemorate the courage and sacrifice of Romanian civilians who in 1916 fought off a German invasion.
The Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi was a central figure of the modern movement and a pioneer of abstraction. At auctions in the 1990´s his works reached the highest prices that ever had been paid for sculptures, unbeaten until today.
His sculpture is noted for its visual elegance and sensitive use of materials, combining the directness of peasant carving with the sophistication of the Parisian avant-garde. After attending the Bucharest School of Fine Arts and learning of the sculpture of August Rodin, Brancusi traveled to Paris in 1904. Brancusi created his first major work, The Kiss, in 1908. From this time his sculpture became increasingly abstract, moving from the disembodied head of Sleeping Muse to the virtually featureless Beginning of the World and from the formal figure of the legendary bird Maiastra to numerous versions of the ethereal Bird in Space.
Brancusi's sculpture gained international notoriety at the 1913 Armory Show in New York, a city that he visited four times and where his work frequently would be exhibited. In his Paris studio at Brancusi devoted great attention to the arrangement of his sculptures, documenting individual works and their installation in an important body of photographs. In the 1930s Brancusi worked on two ambitious public sculpture projects, an unrealized temple in India for the Maharajah of Indore and the installation at Tirgu Jiu, Romania, of his Gate of the Kiss, Table of Silence and the 100-foot tall cast iron version of Endless Column.
On his death Brancusi left the contents of his studio to the Museum of Art of the City of Paris, on condition that the studio be installed in the museum in its entirety. Today this museum can be found right outside the Centre Pompidou.

Hi Johannes!
Well composed photo! It's a very good game between the clearness in front and the misty mood in the background. The leaving people in the middle are the cherry on the top.
Best regards.

Hi Johannes!
The fog is making this picture to me, giving a very fine background and a peaceful mood to the picture. The composition works very well, I like the low position of the sculpture and the central position of the pathway. And the two persons there is ofcourse a very important eyecatcher.

Hello Johannes. A excellentes photo. You represented the winter in a way particularly worth seeing. The light is vague and at the same time perfect. Crucially for me however are the persons in the picture. My acknowledgment. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Johannes, imi place mult atmosfera: ceata, linistea... Minunate prezenta umana si perspectiva.
Il iubesc pe Brancusi si desi traiesc in Romania nu am apucat inca sa merg la Tg. Jiu
Multumesc pt. foto :) - frumos!
Cele bune.

Johannes,
I have never heard about this sculptor, but I can see what you mean with elegance and sensitiveness. You did extremely well in putting this into a context with a soft and delicate landscape. For some reasons it reminds me a winteresque impression of King Arthur's round table.

Hi Johannes,
you've chosen excellent day to capture this table of silence. With a help of a dense fog and two silhuettes disappearing into it, the quietness and calmness of this day and specialy silence of main, in foreground, revelaed motive is superbly felt. Excellent work!
Kind regards,
Jeri

Hi Johannes
I like this photo very much. I've heard of Brancusi's work and love the contrast between the warmth of the table and stools in the foreground and the cold grey mistiness going into the distance. Living in Australia I can only imagine how the couple feel in this landscape of such cold and low visibility. Congratulations!
