Photographer’s Note

Szék (or Sic in Romanian) is a small village of about 3200 habitants, almost like an island in the middle a salty, hilly grassland in Transylvania, 45 kms far from Kolozsvár (Cluj). 90% of the population is still Hungarian. The village has been a sort of "sack"-village, a dead-end, there has been only one road to go and it ended there until recently, but even the new roads are still quite bad. Being isolated for centuries allowed the habitants to keep their ancient cultural roots, their beautiful folk-costumes (the new generation tends to wear it only on Sundays, but the older people still wear them each day) and their sometimes surprising traditions of the everyday life. Visiting this place is very special, like travelling in time.
The picture was taken in the oldest traditionally blue house - it's blue both outside and inside. Our guide was Zsuzsanna, an exceptional person who made this trip unforgettable.
