This is the Majestas Domini, the 800 year old Romanesque sculpture, above a beautifully carved side doorway of the St. Michael's catholic cathedral in the Alba Carolina citadel in the Transylvanian city of Alba Iulia(Weissenburg/Karlsburg/Gyulafehérvár). This is one of the largest churches and the most important architectural ensemble in Transylvania. Its architecture displays a mixture of romanesque, gothic, renaissance and baroque styles. It is the church of the archdiocese of Transylvania, Archidioecesis Albae Iuliensis, founded in 1007, a diocese of Hungary, Alba Transylvaniensis, by the first king of Hungary, St. Stephen and recognized by the Vatican in 1009. Inside are the tombs of Hungarian Queen Isabella and her son, Prince Sigismund, Transylvanian warlord and governor of Hungary, Ioannus Huniad, and of other important figures of Transylvanian and Hungarian nobility and clergy.
