At our TE-meeting last weekend, we explored the fortified churches in the traditionally German dominated areas of Transylvania. These churches had been built mostly between the 13th and 15th century to defend against the attacks of the many armies crossing the country, headed West. They resisted, their culture persisted for centuries, but was distroyed in the end by the harsh communism in Romania and the (relatively) easy way out of the country to Germany. Most members of the German minority left, and if they did not do so during the communist area, they did so shortly after.

As a result, only few families stayed - what lives on, are the churches, evidence of a once rich cultural and religious life.

We had a great weekend, lot´s of fun (ok, this photo doesn´t look like that much fun, but I´m too tired now to prepare another one), and I hope we´ll all meet again soon!
