Romania’s fishing fleet was once the third largest in Europe and 10th largest in the world. The capacity to provide for domestic consumption dropped once the fleet disappeared, from 8 kilograms per capita before 1990 to around 2.5 kilograms in the 90’s. After Romania had joined the EU in 2007, the Agency for Fishing and Aquaculture within the Ministry of Agriculture drew up a strategic plan to develop Romanian fisheries, with help from professional associations. We thus managed to identify areas where fishing should benefit from support through European funds. Fish consumption is on the rise, currently standing at over 6 kilograms per capita, while the European average is 20 kilograms per capita.

I didn't eat much fish in Romania, and no wonder, if this is the fishing fleet :-). These boats and dilapidated buildings don't serve much practical purpose any longer, but they are great for a colour photo. You composed and cropped this perfectly and the colours are superb. I like this kind of "ugly beauty".

Hello Daniel, very nice composition and a great idea. The fishing industry has changed so much over the last several decades when the large corporations took control. The idea of a small vessel and a crew of two or three going out and catching enough for a family or village seems antiquated now. Your brilliant image shows us the bygone era of that ancient trade. That's the power of a photographic image,
Have a great day,

le barche sull'erba sono un'ottima prova a conferma della nota.
Bella presentazione e piacevole taglio.

Nicely composed shot which says a lot when taken into the context of your story. Cheers, Neil

Excellente composition qu'il faut absolument admirer en grand format. Les différentes matières s'opposent de très belle façon et j'aime particulièrement l'arrière plan qui contraste d'étonnante façon avec les barques et l'herbe. Excellent!

An interesting note Daniel and heartening to hear that fish consumption is on the rise. A precious resource fish stocks need to be constantly monitored to assure continuing replenishment.
The old boats pictured here don't look as if they will be going fishing any time soon!
A good observation and attractively cropped image.

J'aime beaucoup le format de l'image ainsi que le sujet très original. Tout en longueur, il ne laisse voir que ce qu'il veut bien nous laisser voir. Mais que font ces trois barques dans ce champs?

an interesting read about the history of Romania's fishing industry.
so what's in the bg? what type of building is that, it looks abandoned - which is exactly what appeals to me.
i like the tall grassy look as well, the grass thats surrounding the grounded boats.
lots of history in this scene, lots of ruined subjects :)

boats floating on the sea are almost a daily routine of TE, however boats "floating" on grass is not a usual subject. i love the tight crop which also includes the bottom of the dilapidated blue buildings in the bg. very nice colors and good "trio" compo.

Simple but very effective composition with the three boats well placed within the frame and the hint of buildings in the background.
The boats partly hidden in long grass illustrate very well the issues you mention in the note.

I like the idea of the panoramic format for this scene as well as tighter framing. The old boats in the foreground have been nicely placed in the composition and the lush green grass provides very nice settings for them. Also the background is quite interesting adding some color to the wholeness.
Thanks for sharing

Those boats are crying out to be photographed and your processing has made the image extra special. Very artistic how they stand out so well against the green grass and the background. A lovely composition and a most pleasing image! Great shot, TFS

very pleasant impression of the boats accompanied by an interesting note! But it is sad to learn that they do not have any future. Very beautiful colors here, especially the blue tones – and an excellent composition. My compliments!

Salut Daniel, imi place seria asta din Dobrogea. Cumva reusesti sa surprinzi esenta acestor locuri mai bine decat oricine. Imi plac culorile strong.

Daniel, so nicely captured and so beautifully out of order!!great format and magnificent colors on the tp of everything else!!
Daniel, I've been in Rio and Brasil for over a month now and not in one minute I felt in danger in the streets, in the country or any other place here...
Of course Rio is a city of 6 million people and it can't be all good, it has crime like any other place in the world...but me personally I have not experienced a single incident..
thanks for visiting me!!
