Mihail Cantacuzino founded the monastery, subsequent to his pilgrimage to the monasteries of Mont Sinai. Between 1690 and1695, there were constructed the small church and the fortress that surrounds it. In the same time, there were also constructed the monastic cells and the monastic chapel. The paintings were executed by Master Parvu Mutu and were reconditioned in 1795.
Fathers Ioasaf and Paisie had the main church and the monastic cells erected between 1843 and1846; the monastic cells are situated on the northern and southern sides of the holy establishment. The chapel dates back to 1792.
The belfry and the museum were constructed in 1895. This was the first museum of religious art from Romania.
Between 1898 and 1903, under the reign of King Carol I, the main church and the surrounding fortress, as well as the monastic cells, underwent extensive repairs and restorations.
The church has lovely ornamentation that is embellished with enameled bricks and with painted niches (which are placed on the outside of the main church).
On the right wall of the entrance door to the church, there is a portrait of King Carol I, and on the left wall, the portrait of Queen Elisabeta ant their daughter, Princess Maria (who died when she was only an infant).
In 1922, the burial vault of the politician Take Ionescu was placed within the old monastery grounds.
After 2000 some workshops have also been accommodated within the monastery grounds, one for making sculptures in wood, as well the workshops for manufacturing goblins and tapestries.
The museum of religious art, which is also situated within the monastery grounds, has been listed on the National Register as a repository of liturgical art objects that are of inestimable patrimonial value. The museum shelters not only precious liturgical objects, but also the collection of icons and ancient manuscripts of the County of Prahova.
The main church and the small church, together with the whole monastic complex of Sinaia, benefited from the continuous care of the Patriarchs Justinian, Justin and Teoctist.
Skete of Lifting of the Holy Cross – Caraiman, is affiliated to the Sinaia Monastery. The monastic establishment was made following a secret Mystical vision that Father Gherontie (one of the most respected monastic residents of our times) had had. The construction of the skete was financed by donations offered by the devout faithful of good who are living in the Busteni town. The consecration of the holy establishment took place in October 2001.

Ciao e buona serata

Looks a delightful architecture and nicely taken with pleasant arrangement in this orientation from low pov and beautifully lit with strong vertical convergence for a delightful photographic impact rendering great depth and sense of height. The richness of colors is wonderful and so strikingly contrast against blue sky, pin sharp as well. This church looks cute and elegant. Fine work, Congrats

the wide-angle lens creates an interesting graphical effect, and as well a strong perspective of the architectural lines of this monastery. This provide a great power into your composition, by means of a luminous and colorful photo.

a fascinating presentation of this antique but well preserved church. I like very much the dynamism of your composition and the delightful play of perspectives all over the frame. The verticals in the middle consist a stable axis and the way the other lines and patterns lean and expand creates a vibrant and impressive effect. There's great sense of depth and you've managed light, colours and contrasts in a very effective and agreeable way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
