Photographer’s Note

Decorated Easter eggs are much older than Easter, and both eggs and rabbits are age-old fertility symbols. Easter eggs are a widely popular symbol of new life in Ukraine and other Slavic countries' folk traditions. A batik-like decorating process known as pysanka produces intricate, brilliantly-colored eggs (info from Wikipedia). Similar, complex decoration patterns are found also in Romania, especially in the North-East.

I have these eggs for a few years now, they are proudly cherished as a souvenir from the area where I was born. The bowl is also a souvenir form the area, and although the paint chipped out in some areas I still think it is a good match for the eggs. Hopefully you'll find them interesting and/or enjoyable!

Note: I don't remember the area these eggs originated from, the State/City indicate where they were acquired.

Beautiful composition and colours! I really like the light combined with the black background. If there were a way to remove the one bright spot, that would be a bonus. But the shot is great as-is too.

Hallo Catalin! The black background was a good choice, it strehgtens the composition and colors. It's very hard to shoot polished surfaces without reflexes, especially golden ones, so I like your choice of light which makes the reflexes on the eggs very small and neutral - well done!! ciao Catalin,
dexteritate si migala,din cate imi aduc aminte de la mamaia mea se fac cu ceara fierbinte,nu stiu exact procedeul,dar sunt specifice Bucovinei,ai dreptate..buna alegerea ta pentru sarbatorile pascale,detalii si culori bune..

I watched my grandson color egg last evening - they don't look quite like these. Great capture for the Holiday. Are the shells empty? I assume they must be!

Great contrast and sharpness! I have an egg like these, that a romanian offered to me a few years ago, but its colors were not so sharp. These are real pieces of art.
