Photographer's Note
I saw this slightly strange looking house in an old-fashioned but rather upmarket part of Bucharest. Since this building was next door to the former residence of the dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu, I can assume that whoever used to live here belonged to the top level of the Communist hierarchy. Nearby was also the former home of the first Communist leader, Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej, the predecessor of Ceauşescu.
I don't know exactly what these workers were doing, but I guess something rotten had penetrated the whole structure.
If you want to see the Ceauşescu residence, it's in the workshop.

Hej Gert,

Hello Gert,
This is an image in the true meaning of trekearth.
Maybe nobody dare to live here anymore?
Nice composition and diagonal.

Buongiorno Gert
il tetto sembra proprio mal ridotto, mi piace la vista di questi operai che lavorano sul tetto con le loro scale di legno, essendo un geometra, osservo con piacere le tecniche degli altri.
Bel palazzo, nel ws c'č una bella vista.
Buona domenica

Hi Gert,
Certainly a large house and it will be the residence of another ... hierarchy, "Communist" or Capitalist, who knows.. it's only a name. The Communist in Sweden is different from the "Communist" in China, don't you think?
You were right about the country in late 80's. I found there was hardly anything in the shops in early 1990...Nice to see you reportage, looking back to the history, Gert. Keep up your excellent work.

Bonjour Gert,
C'était la bonne saison pour le faire. Le soleil est chaud et pas d'apparence de pluie. Un toit superbe qui vaut la peine d'investir.
Amicalement

Hello Gert,
at first the image looks simple but then a lot of details seem to appear one after the other to make the scene more complicated and very interesting. The architecture, the perspective and the textures of the roofs circulate our attention and the figures and postures of the builders are really eye catching and intriguing. I like very much the warm sweet light and the bright colours; the shady part looks strikingly cold. The workshop picture is superb too, not only because of its great composition, clarity and rendering of colours but mainly thanks to its point of view that makes the dicator's residence look secluded, inpenetrable, mysterious and scary, as it must have actually been for so many years. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hi Gert
Nice closeup shot of a house under going repairs. Its colors, vividness and vibrancy are superb and good interplay of colors the workmen attract the eyes as strong focal,. A simple shot but the additional picture puts everything into pespective and the whole content excellently. A fine doc shot, history and your lengthy notes. Well done.
Warm regards

Hello Gert! A interesting idea this slightly strange house old-fashioned but beautiful part of Bucharest. I like the clean lines and the simplicity of architecture!
And of course there is no doubt concerning the year the construction was finished...
A fine point of view and the subject is well framed by the trees, rich colours and fine details!
best regards

Hej Gert,

Dear Gert,
this is a well spotted subject, proving that a simple roof can be a great photographic subject. The photo in WS is even more interesting and I read the accompanying notes with great fascination!
Thanks for sharing!

Hi gert, it is interesting that this house stood so near Ceausescu palace. Of course, I also remember the news about their deaths.
The wife of Ceausescu was a chemist. She wrote the book that was really poor but had to be translated into Polish and published in PWN Polish Scientific Publishers. My friend was editor of this masterpiece. She forgot somehow to put the name of the translator. There was a party in Romanian Embassy with the presetation of the book and there was a consternation who is translator. Later she was grateful to my friend that her name didn't appear.
Nice shot. The rate of accidents during work must be high in Romania. No protection on the roof.
Warm regards
Malgo
