Photographer's Note
This is Braşov in central Romania, also known by its old German name Kronstadt. Contrary to the slogan of an international brewery it is, in my opinion, probably not the best city in the world, not even the best in Romania, but it's good enough and certainly worth a visit.
Braşov is part of the Transylvanian region, rich in culture and natural beauty. The old town is squeezed in between steep, forested hillsides and the surroundings are well known for its many bears. They are sometimes known to enter the suburbs of the city looking for food - or so my guidebook claims.

Bonsoir, Gert,

Hello dear Gert,
Nice capture from Brasov; good pov and good layout.
It reminds me somehow to Freiburg in Brg (South Germany) both architectorialwise and the woods on which the city leans.
TFS and best regards

Hello Gert,
This may not be the best of cities but your photograph certainly makes this particular part of it appear really quite attractive.
Your composition is excellent, the curve of the line of buildings and the curve of the kerb on the right both leading the eye perfectly into the depths of the image. Lovely soft lighting and fine vibrant colours, excellent depth of field, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. Do the invading bears just steal food or are they also a threat to people?

Hi Gert
"probably the best city in the world" is probably not the best slogan! seems like even they are unsure :)
i really like how you frame the photo Gert, leaving out the skyline was such a smart idea.
Its great how everything is squeezed in. love seeing Romania, its a country that is SO COMPLETELY foreign to Canadians.
thanks for this one
cheers

Hej Gert,

Hi Gert
It seems that the old town is so peaceful with less human masses and hectic traffic but I think it's easy to appreciate its allure as seen. Of particular interest is the proud display of charming architecture splashed in beautiful pastel colors, but I think in the heart of this place stands the popular beer corner serves as attractive meeting place its seems. But imho one colour that really make all the different; its the green of the lush backdrop and at the bottom that bring lots of life and vitality to this shot. A quality standout picture so well taken, Congrats. TFS
Kind regards

Hej Gert,

Hello Gert - a very pleasant shot of what is at minimum, I'm sure, a nice city. Ye, perhaps the sign contains some hyperbole, but one can forgive it that; I'm sure a few of the people who have enjoyed an afternoon with a beer at that cafe have been lulled into agreeing. The scene itself is excellent, with the curving road and beautifully colored buildings under a slope of thick green trees. Thanks!

Hello Gert,
You're capturing well this place by a good angle and excellent tone, so it's interesting and impressive to see rows of houses which set a medieval atmosphere adrift. It's impressive in red roof and the wall with the original color, too. And, you catch well the effect which arises from a curved line of houses/street. And, the green forest of backdrop draws out a feature of this city.
Kind regards,
mikio

Hej Gert
The best city in the world is certainly a bit far fetched, still it looks pleasing enough as a place with an impressive green backdrop. I can easily belive that there are bears to be found in these forests.
Well captured scene of this pleasant place.

Hello Gert,
I have long wanted to visit Brasow/Kronstdt. It is a beautiful city, indeed, with the thick curtain of verdant trees in the background. Your note is always a pleasure to read, even when bears are not far away. Recently, I have been studying my father's passports from WWII years, when he served as a diplomatic courier crossing from Turkey to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, France (Vichy Government) Spain and Portugal... and then returning to Turkey. What horrendous times in Europe! So far it appears as Tribute to Gen. Kemal Atalay, although I may expand it into an epic story of three generations.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Gert,
Your viewpoint is well chosen, taking every advantage of the curving road both as a guide and to create curiosity.
The covered table, with relaxing customers, is strongly placed to grab initial interest and begin the exploration of the shot.
It is very interesting, particularly for me, as I had a Romanian friend who was born in this city and she related many stories about the area. Although officially Romanian, she still considered herself to be Hungarian!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hej, Gert,
Hmm, I know Kronstadt in St. Petersbourg, where the Russian Navy locates today. Good title and very informative note I like your idea to use a slogan from the umbrella. Clever diagonal composition, fine details. I have never been in Romania. No time for it.
Have a great WE!

Judging by this shot Brasov would certainly appear to be a very attractive city. Your pov is excellent using the sweeping bend of the street to draw the viewer's eye. The brightly painted buildings stand out against the deep green of the forest. The advertising slogan on the canopy adds a nice touch of humour which you have capitalised on with your title. Very well done.

Hello Gert,
On these picture can we not see that Romania is one of the most poor countries out of the Eastern Bloc.
Exactly a western city with terraces and a lovely car in background.
Nice light management about this cityscape.
Excellent perspective and depth image.
Very well done, TFS.

Hello Gert,
This is a very nice image of the Town & I do like the different coloured facades of the buildings & it is obvious from your notes that you do not agree with the message on the umbrella - Lovely photo - excellent content - colours & very good POV capturing the curvature of the street.

Hej Gert,

Hello Gert,
a well chosen point of view, effective use of depth and perspective, wonderful clarity and colours give us a good idea about this picturesque town and let us judge the truth of the slogan for ourselves. I like very much how the curving row of buildings opens up the view to the surroundings of the town, a lush forest that rises protectively above it and provides a superb contrast to the colours of the town. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,
