Photographer’s Note
The grid
Lisboa, Alfama, Casa dos Bicos, pavement, urbanites.
Not much more to say or to document – just ‘light on surface’ here and celebrating photography as the play with geometrics and textures. And maybe a bit of conceptualism.
I’m preparing our upcoming trip to Lisbon and revisited some old pics in the process.
More info and an earlier shot of the Casa dos Bicos is:
here
The PCS3 work flow: I corrected for perspective distortion, cropped, altered the saturation, contrast, curves and levels for the whole pic and some elements separately, using different layers, flattened the image, converted it o b&w (method: gradient mapping) adjusted the contrast locally, enhanced the edges, USM-ed, added a frame and resized and did a gentle USM (0,7px, 18%) again.
With this pic I used a graphic tablet for the first time and what a delight it was.

Hi Bert,

Hallo Bert,
Je hebt wederom iets grafisch uit een straat scene weten te persen. De lijnen en de architectuur werken uitstekend samen hier. En die mensen geven er iets levendigs aan eht gehel...mooi in zw...prima werk.

First the work flow. Amazing! I did not know it was possible to do so many things on just one picture!!! I wish I could one third of it!!! By the way, “graphic tablet” – what is?
By now, I do not need to say how beautiful your picture is. Congratulations.

Good morning Bert.
nice the texture of the facade of this house in Alfama.I like the decoration as the specific shape of the pavement that is placed almost in the middle of the frame.I hope that a trip to Lisbon will be a good experience.Well done.

Hi, Bert
Fine quality graphical work here. The serious man fits well the sober building. The composition, as usual, very good, nothing in excess, nothing lacking. You would be surprised about how much I learn from your images.

Dag Bert,

Hi Bert
B&W was the perfect choice here to bring out the best of the interesting building and have the 2 men stand out. The point of the pavement is well placed right against the frame to add dynamics and draw the eye to the men.

A minimalist but pertinent title. The grid, that's it !
Tha B&w was the good choice and the curve in the foreground, the visual break that produces originality or extra interest. Well composed.

QUite a graphical photo, Bert. But at the same time gives this poetry the city of Lisboa has, specially with this old man walking throght the frame. Good idea B&W here.

hello Bert,
I wonder if this place was created with photographers in mind :) just look how the sharp protrusion of the pavement mirrors the little pyramids on the wall, and that this similarity is so well visible from the point of view just at the tip of that pavement protrusion :) I like a lot the play of patterns here, and I completely agree with the choice of black&white, it certainly focuses attention on these elaborate details. very well seen and presented, my compliments.
regards,
Kristine

Hi Bert
Absolute graphism in a very geometric composition, well seen thru b/w. I love those convergent curves and the human presence adds a special touch to it
