Photographer’s Note

Cabo Girão is a steep sea cliff located in the southern part of the Atlantic Portuguese Madeira Islands. Situated less than 2 km from the town of Câmara de Lobos, it rises from 560 to 589 meters above sea level. Many brochures tell that it is the second steepest cliff in Europe, but at least two European cliffs (Preikestolen with 604m and Sleave League with 601m) are higher.
The terraced fields lying beneath the cliff used to be only accessible by boat. In August 2003, a cable car was installed on the slope of the cliff so farmers can reach these low-lying fields.
Cabo Girão is a popular lookout point as well as a starting point for hikers. Above the cliffs stand a communications tower and the parish of Quinta Grande. The road linking Calheta and Funchal runs 1 km north.

Bonjour, cher Paolo,
Impressionnant ! Vertige de beauté, vertige de hauteur. Je ne sais pas comment a été prise la photo, mais il a fallu se pencher sérieusement pour réussir ce spectacle étonnant.
Ce qui est intéressant et intrigant ce sont ces parcelles au pied de la falaise !
Très bien fait.

Wow, what a fantastic vertigo feeling, Paolo. Funny thing, I've never been to Madeira Islands, but I would love to explore its wonderful scenic hikes, one day. That blue with the two boats is amazing.

Hi Paolo,
What a birds eye view from so high up. I really like that the shot is divided into two distinct sections of the deep blue water and the green of the land making for a great composition together with the curved line. The two boats on the water give a good sense of scale and are a nice detail with their white trails.

Now that's an impressive POV! It looks like you were flying . The boats, the waving coastline and the colours make it very appealing. The only time I visited Madeira I wasn't much in the mood for photos, I guess I have to go back one of these days. :-)

Now I see why Madeira gets compared to Ulleungdo volcano in Korea. Similar steep cliffs, an intense cobalt blue sea, & a precarious hug on the landscape by people. A fantastic downward pov. Tfs!
