Photographer’s Note
This is a photo taken in my hometown, or should I say homesea, homebeach, homefishing, whatever you feel like seeing. These were ephemeral instants of pure joy for me, nourishing precious souvenirs. The Art of fishing is still part of daily life in these latitudes.
Dedicated to Fred towards whom I'll never be thankful enough for his unconditional love.

The love of the 'homesee' comes through this photo. You present not just the art of fishing, but the art of catching a perfect moment from a perfect POV of the art of fishing. Many thanks, Jalab

Nothing short of a great, carefully composed and edited photography.
The sun was your friend in there Gal, and you knew how to use that powerful friend to its full capacity...
That element of exciting fear...?
The high pitch sound of constantly hungry seagulls...???
A music for my ears..

Wow Gal !

ok, I see you and Fred have something special going on between the two of you, wonder if your wife knows anything about it;-)
As for the photo, man what's in the air today, first Sohrab and Animesh posting great photos, now you, I would say this may be one of your best photos ever. It has this Indian feel to it, I guess I am not sure how to express it correctly, my feeling is that for westeners european/north american photography appears even more challenging because the locations just don't seem very unique (generalizatin at it's best, but I hope you get the drift), yet here you have been able to include the special feeling of the east. I gather I am reading the photo much different from your intentions, that's all right, I see where you are coming from (as a photographer, and as a man coming back to his homeland to experience the growing up again), me as a observer I am able to absorb it to some degree and place it without any borders, globally if you will.
Your treatment of light is fantastic.
Special work here, really mean it, and I am not the one who says that too often (perhaps I am in the good mood today, and everything looks beautifull).

Bonsoir Gal,

Amazing Gal, whereas the sun here should have been your nightmare you use it to its advantage. Such subtle tones and perfectly composed.

Bonjour, Gal.

So many fish, so many gulls, so
many fishermen... in a lovely
semi-silhouetted composition
filling the frame under what it
looks like a scorching sun.
A nice painting of Setubal and
a reminder of your hometown and a
hometown of one of my precious
young friends... thank you, Gal!

Hi Gal
Great back light. The birds around the men working make the scene. Excellent b&w.

Hello Gal - must be wonderful to live so close to such a still vibrant fishing industry in your hometown. This B&W conversation is so well suited to this scene of sun and dark shadows. The eerie feeling of the birds overhead make it seems a lot darker than this scene probably really is, they remind me of circling vultures. :)

Aaaaah, Gal, this is photography in its finest. Now after I have put it in my private favs, I should say something to justify my awe, and am pretty lost for the right words; is it the bright contrasty light, the endless stream of gulls, the fishermen going about their work under the heat of the sun dial that create such a powerful atmosphere? Is it perhaps our birthplace that inescapably connect us with the land/sea of childhood that speaks here so eloquently? Be what it may, it is a phenomenal image... I can smell the fish, hear the birds... and yes, what Peter says, it does have an Indian feel to it. I myself had to check where the shot had been taken...

Obrigado.

Great POV here and an unusual departure from your masterful use of the vertical. You plunge us right in the fishing scene. Lovely to see you working you home turf - I feel something more visceral here, my friend, less celebral than your Geneva pics.
In any case, beautiful work.
Cheers,

Muito bom Gal. Uma imagem tipicamente portuguesa. Faz-me lembrar Gageiro.

Hi Gal, it's so nice to run into you and one of your photos. I hope you are doing well.
The photo and the note just say that this is still where your heart is, and I am touched by that. Fishing still requires a lot of hands here, and I like these silhouettes with all the birds trying to find something too. very nice.
All the best, Rinie

Hi Gal,
The seaguls in the background surely know everything about the art of fishing ;-). Great shot, I can just smell the sweat, the sea and here the seaguls creaming. Nice.

indeed what a great day for photos on te! best silhouette image here for quite a while.. strangely i also would've guessed india for a location (i think sohrab's to blame, it must be the gulls :-)..)... man i miss that kind of sun here in taiwan sometimes... how come they were so busy at 6pm, isn't fishing mostly a morning thing?

Salut Gal,

Hey Gal<
I won't be poetical nor metaphorical, I can say that u've done a master piece here, too much life going on there (ok half life if I consider the fish are not that alive anymore) it's just beautiful, I'm trying not to feel the smell of the fish. Very dynamical shot, it has woken up all of my senses.
Stay well
