History between fables and reality: Pompeii 79 AD vs. Vila Franca do Campo 1522
According to school books, whoever was at this vantage point at noon, 22 October 1522, witnessed the most catastrophic nature event in the History of Civilization, ever since Pompeii in 79 AD, as the Lake of Fire wiped off the face of the Earth the skyline of Vila Franca do Campo, the first capital of the New World ever since 1450.
70 years later, at the time Gaspar Frutuoso wrote the story, History students were ironically still taught that Pompeii was a fable created by the writer Pliny the Younger.

Timeline of God vs. Timeline of Evil
In God's timeline, the revelation of the last hours of Pompeii was to begin only 160 years later.
How was it possible that the fable of the destruction of Vila Franca was transformed into History? Begin by understanding the Timeline of Evil, which orbits around the day that evolution theory became Science.

Sources that inspired Gaspar Frutuoso's fable
Indeed the "fable" of Pompeii was the first source that inspired Gaspar Frutuoso.
The second source was the eruption of a small crater, located near the city where he lived, on the north coast of the island, Ribeira Grande.
The third source was ...

... what was really wiped off at Vila Franca do Campo
Vila Franca do Campo, the holy ground where the last resistors to the spanish occupation felt fighting for their freedom, 1582. Four years after the annihilation of the portuguese army and the disappearance of King Sebastian in the desert of Morocco, two years after the fall of Lisbon to the King of Spain.
This would be indeed the best vantage point to watch the naval battle and the following massacre that sealed the total loss of national independence.
An one time in History event, from the foundation of Portugal in 1143 until the very end, in 2004, as it was formally absorbed by the European Union.

End of New World's first capital's skyline: not 1522 but 2007.
But it was not until now that the skyline of Vila Franca do Campo was destroyed. Besides the towers of centuries old buildings and churches, appartment buildings now also rise above the tiled rooftops.
