Photographer’s Note

First excursion and first image of Madeira. We are here in Ponta de São Lourenço. This point located at the end of the island is the part of Madeira which one discovers in first when we arrive by plane from the European continent.
Constantly swept by the winds, this place really contrasts with the remainder of the island. It offers, to the eye of the traveller, rocks of splendid colors and a very specific flora.
Concerning the geographical aspects, you see on the left, Baía de Abra and in the center, the small top of Pedras Brancas (alt. 163 m).

Bonjour Christophe,
Je vois que tu es allé dlcouvrir d'autres montagnes pendant tes vacances. Moi qui suis une fan des paysages arides et minéraux je ne peux qu'aimer cette photo où, en plus, la roche se conjugue avec la mer de part et d'autre. Une belle vue en plongée avec une grande profondeur et de belles couleurs.

You had a wonderful high POV for this shot. I like the way we can see two bays separated by the rocks. THe f18 has given excellent depth and sharpness. well done

Hello Christophe,

La composition de cette première image est au top ! Les tâches d'océan dans les parties gauches et droites sont parfaitement plaçées ! J'aime beaucoup la profondeur de l'image qui nous permet de longer des partie de la côte jusqu'à l'horizon ! La texture de la pierre est bien rendue !

Salut Christophe,
Ca faisait un moment qu'on t'avait plus vu par ici !
Je vois que tu es alle chercher le soleil loin au sud, tres beau point de vue dominant cette belle cote, ca coupe un peu vite a gauche je trouve, peut etre aurais tu pu rajouter la une autre image et l'assembler avec la premiere ? Joli rendu des contrastes et couleurs

Another great picture and this time from my own country. I have been to Madeira Island many, many years ago and I only remember a few things from Funchal. I am going to Lisbon in December and I am thinking to go to Madeira for a few days in early January, before I do return to Australia. It is amazing how the island is so green in some parts and so arid in others. The shot is beautiful with a very good POV and superb colours and definition. Well done.

Never been to Ponta de São Lourenço Christophe. But I'll have to go there next time I fly to Madeira (a thing that I do at least once in a year...). Your photo looks good. It must be a gigantic place and that spreads across your frame. Light is good and those clouds are essential here. Very nice. I'll be flying to Porto Santo next Wednesday but I'll return to your Madeira travelogue for sure. It will be nice to see how a talented photographer like yourself will do in "my wife's island". :)
