Photographer’s Note
First posting for Scavenger hunt - Tallest Building in city.(or "mine is bigger then yours" competion) :)
This is the tower of Maia, or "Torre do Lidador"
It´s part of the town hall that streches to its left, in front of a nice empty square.
It´s 21 floors, and about 95 meters high. It was built 8 years ago.
The "lidador" (Gonçalo Mendes da Maia) is an historic character, a baron that has his image and life connected to the city.
He was a conqueror, and became well known during his fights against the sarracenes, specially because of some heroic episodes that led to his death at a certain fight, when he was already 95 years old!
There´s a statue of him at the base of the tower that took the name he went by.
The pre visualization 3D model and animation movie for this tower, happens to have been produced by my company.
I´m posting 2 images from it in the WS section.
The awkward angle is both a composition experiment, and a workarround for a physical limitation.
I did want this exact perspective, but these are the phisical limits of both the wide angle on my little minolta lens, and the maximum distance I could get from the tower, befor I hit my back against the wall of some barber shop. (and I was afraid they´d want to cut my hair..).
This tower is undergoing some discussions because the national aviation comitee hadn´t issued a permit for its construction and it should, since the top of the tower excedes the 180 meters above sea level rule. Still, the city mayor is known to be very strict with people building houses and not respecting each and every tiny detail of the law...politicians.!!

Yep Deus! There you are, could'nt you fit it in the normal way? I think it is a bit tilted, i'll try a workshop ;-). No, serious, I like the way you posted it, it's deviant from waht you normally see. \You got a nice blue sky.

Like the composition and the framing. Very artistic. This is somethig I can certainly learn from.

Escolheste um bom ângulo para este edifício e não menos interessante a forma como captaste a foto.
Bem diferente, gostei.
Parabéns.
