The city of Sintra is very close to Lisboa and although it is not a very large one, must be a very splendid one, according to the high number of pictures posted (over 450 when I write this text).
I was not sure of posting this one because there are for sure some better photos than this one from this place, but I did not see one of the castle framed with this arch.
I have readen about this place in Wikipedia and I know that the origin of the name of this castle is that it was constructed in 19th century over the ruins of an old convent of Hieronymites monks in praise of Our Lady of Pena.
The Portuguese word "pena" means sorrow and also means punishment.
But instead of copying an article of Wikipedia, I want to remember what my colleague Jose Vieira told
me about the lover of a king who was living here, in this remote place, away from others.
Perhaps this woman felt sorrow (pena) of being locked in like suffering punishment (pena), unjustly framed.
If I look at this arch, its relief reminds me a chain. Can you see the pentagon in the center. At the other side of this arch is also a pentagon which contains a key in it.
This was a sad symbol for me, I do not know if sculpted there by coincidence.

Beautiful frame. I like the colours and the repeating pattern in the towers. Rather magestic.

Ola Clemente,
Yes, this is nice frame for this picteresque castle. I like the shape of this arch and tiles very typical for Portugal. Good choice of this unusual perspective,
well done,
regards,
maki

Hello Clemente,
I do say this is a very strong composition. The framed in pentagon and the patterns above the brick frame creates a very bold statement. The distant castle details tends to balance this foreground nicely. I like the effected results. This is how a photo should be taken. It says something bold and punchy like! Good stuff Clemente!

Good decision in sharing this shot. It is really nice to see the Castle framed on its own arch. Very original and with superb colours.

Hola Clemente.

Felicitaciones.
John
