[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have choosen this title in Portuguese because "céu" means both heaven and sky and we can translate this therefore as "heaven as ceiling" or "the sky as ceiling".

I knew of this church in this pages thanks to a beautiful picture of Jose Elias (joseelias). I was so enraptured by it that I could not forget to visit this church when I was in Portugal in August.

Imagine how many times have you been bothered by the poor light when you try to photograph inside a gothic church. Here you do not have this problem and you can photograph these wonderful ribs "ad libitum".

But we must not forget that this church has a tragic story. In November 1st, 1755 there was a terrible earthquake in Lisboa. Of a population of 275'000 up to 90'000 were killed. The city should be reconstructed but these ruins of the Carmo Convent were preserved to remind Lisboners of the destruction.

It is remarkable to see that the structure was not damaged and this give us an idea of how solid was the gothic architecture.

¡Caramba Clemente! He abierto la galería, he visto esta foto y he entrado corriendo sin ver que era tuya. Enhorabuena. Muy buena idea visual este contrapicado vertical. La simetría aquí es lo que viene bien y que esté tan centrada es una idea excelente (que les den a los puristas de las reglas fotográficas). Excelente enfoque y mejor título. Gracias por mostrarnos este sitio que sin duda visitaré cuando vuelva a Lisboa (y te recomiendo dar una vuelta por Zamora y visites el monasterio abandonado de un pueblecito llamado Granja de Moreruela, o bien el de San Pedro de Arlanza en Burgos, aunque para este último espera a que Carlos Coco te haga de guía).

¡Qué foto más espectacular de unas ruinas! Has tenido una gran idea, porque el contraste entre los finos arcos desnudos y el azul intenso del cielo es muy "fotogénico". Además ilustra muy bien lo que dices en tu nota sobre la arquitectura gótica: los arcos son realmente la estructura del edificio, ¡pensar que se sujeten así! Me gusta mucho también la simetría. En fin, una imagen muy gráfica, original y sugerente. Una belleza. Muchas gracias.

This is a beautiful and inspiring photo, Clemente, and the perfect symmetry here, helped by the bright duotone colours, is wonderful. These church ruins without a celing are such a good subject for photography, I have one myself here from Jumieges abbey.

Lovely POV. Simply, minimalistic but it works for me great. I saw many pictures of this church but never saw such original, unusual look.

Brilliantly original take on this old subject. I like the title at well. The perfect symmetry works really well. The blue sky looks great, and the exposure an the stone arch ways is good too. Well done.

Admirável ideia de fotografar as ruinas do Carmo deste ângulo. A imagem ficou muito bonita com um céu azul magnífico que só teria sido melhor com uma ou duas nuvens a compor a imagem. Parabéns pelo excelente trabalho.
