Photographer’s Note

After a few difficult weeks with my work, and a small surgical operation the week spent, I am in convalescence at the house for this week. that will leave me a little time for Trekearth...

I will benefit from it to show you some photographs of my last trip to the Cape Vert.

April 14, 2006
We took off from Zurich/Kloten for Lisbon by a flight of the TAP. Arrived to Lisbon right before midday, we had to await 9 p.m. for our flight towards Sal. We decided for a small visit downtown. An urban bus carried out us towards banks of Tage river, where the World-Wide Exhibition of 1998 had proceeded.

The exhibition proceeded of May 22 at September 30, 1998. Its topic was "the Oceans, a heritage for our future", and was selected in homage to the famous Portuguese navigator, Vasco de Gama. 1998 indeed marked the 500 years of a capital discovery in the history of the trade: the discovery of the Road of the Indies.

On this site, the majority of the buildings are still there, of which Pavilon of Ocean, a giant acquarium, and many fountains. We visited acquarium. It is divided into 5 parts quite distinct, including one monumental central basin with sharks, rays and a crowd of other fishs. But I decided to show you a photograph of one of the fountains still in activity.

The jets of water, more than 120, throw their water from 4 m height, by forming a tunnel that many people cross. As the back is open on a pond, with enough of moves back to see a good third of the jets. I was impressed by the superb effect which the back-light offered to us thus. I waited a certain time to have people in the field. I admired this breaking play between the light of the water columns and the silhouettes of the people in their daily actions.

I hope that you appreciate as much as me.
With the fact I do not know if this fountain has a name. If somebody can give me this information, would be superb. Thank you in advance.
