Photographer's Note

The municipality of “Nordeste” (Northeast), is one of the most attractive in São Miguel.

It is characterised by an irregular surface area almost totally covered with trees. Many of the exotic sylvan species used for the production of wood and for the protection of properties along with a great variety of other lush vegetation are in abundance here.

- “Pico da Vara”, the highest point on the island, with an altitude of 1105m, challenges you to a one and a half to two hour walk along a path which offers magnificent scenery and intimate contact with nature in the most primitive form.(Note: Since Pico da Vara is considered Natural Reserve, previous authorisation by the Regional Forestry Ministry is required and a tour guide)

- The climb to “Pico Bartolomeu”, where one of the RTP/A (Azorean television station) antennas is found, is another of the many worthwhile hikes available.

Hi Joana, amazing shot, with that green mount with a vulcanic shape and on the back the sea and the sky that are a mix of white and pale blue.

Continuas a encantar-nos com os Açores. Cada vez tenho mais vontade de lá ir. Mas isto de viver no outro lado do mundo, complica um pouco as coisas. Talvez um dia possa ter a oprtunidade de um passeio por São Miguel,e não só!

Qué bien nos estás enseñando la belleza de las Açores, con tu serie sobre estas islas.
Esta foto es muy bonita también, está muy bien iluminada, tiene un buen encuadre con un excelente punto de vista, y colores bien saturados y contrastados.

Hola Joana, los tonos verdes intensos iluminados por los rayos del sol contrastando con las sobras oscuras/negras de las nubes y un cielo luminoso hacen de tu foto una bella imagen de las ya mis queridas Islas Azores.

Excellent landscape photo once again! Excellent composition and colours. Great exposure, sharpness and contrast. beautiful sky. Is there a house that I see in the picture. If it is and it looks so tiny then i can imagine the vastness of the area. Very good point of view.

At last, I am taking a look at your gallery again. This one is delightful, with the light and the shadows of the clouds on the landscape. And so clear! I love the groups of trees and the neat fields, and the sky. I'm glad you included the distant mountain on the right, it adds perspective and depth. A simple but great shot.
