Sortelha ao pôr-do-sol (re-post) Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a re-post of my first ever photo in TE. I followed the advice given by several of our TE friends, made a bigger size, sharpened the picture and wrote a little note about the village.

Sortelha is a medieval village and one of the oldest in Portugal. The construction of the fortified walls is ascribed to D. Sancho I, King of Portugal between 1185 and 1211. After that, D. Sancho II ordered the construction of the castle and chartered Sortelha in 1228. Over the centuries, the defensive structure of the village was repaired by other Portuguese Kings such as D.Diniz, D. Fernando and D. Manuel I, who erected the “Pelourinho” in 1510. The castle was again repaired in 1640 when the Restoration War and gained a status of National Monument in 1910.

The shot was taken on a cold day last January, late in the afternoon and before sunset set. I hope you find it better than the first post.

Olá António,
Parabéns por este re-post. Está de facto muitíssimo melhor. Bonitas cores e luminosidade, com um fantástico céu carregado por detrás, que contrasta muito bem com a torre do castelo. No entanto, não sei se não estará um pouco inclinada. Mas é apenas um pequeno pormenor. Muito bem!

La iluminación es sobrecogedora , fantástica así como el encuadre y todos los elementos con que enriqueces la composición(la luz con el cielo , la textura de la foto plasmada en ese bello castillo, las sombras , el detalle abajo derecha de esa persona en las escaleras ) Una foto muy muy bonita de un lugar precioso . hi antonio, this picture evokes loneliness, suggested by the old, apparently abandoned tower, and strenghened by the warm late-afternoon light. at the same time, you can see one person about to climb the stairs, so it is not so empty after all. great, evocative picture, and much better than your first-ever te post.

afternoon sunlight gives a calm ambiance to the picture.
stormy sky is a great spot too in your photo.

The light made this image. And Your obvious skills. Perfect exposure to obtain a real glow of these fortifications and a fine, stony texture.

I enjoy the warm sunset light on the castle,so pleasing.
Including the stair is a good idea as our lead in to the castle,and the presence of the person gives a dimension of scale as well a livein feeling.

Um castelo dourado onde eu esperava a típica cor do granito. Esse céu também ajuda a dar esse efeito dramático. Espectacular!

the sky view, the sunlight that hits the castle and shadows make this a tremendous and genuine photo. it looks as if the photo is tilted a little to the left but maybe it s due to the construction of this castle
