Photographer's Note

Batalha is one of the most important places for any portuguese. It is there that the portuguese conquered their independance from the spaniards in the XIVth century after the so-called battle of Aljubarrota.
D.Joao I decided to build a monastery the "Mosteiro Santa Maria da Vitoria" (no comment ;-) in order to commemorate this.
The building of the cathedral took almost two centuries... but it was well worth such efforts.
And luckily... no other battle (except time) destroyed this jewel.

Nowadays (with the exception of the very close highway) it is a quiet and restful place.
I hope you will appreciate this gothic arch from the cloister.
