Photographer's Note

Today a photo taken a Praça da Figueira in Lisboa. The partial statue we see is from former King 'D.João I' and castle on background is the well know 'St. George's Castle', one of Lisbon's Ex-Libris. This square one of the most busy of Lisbon's downtown is well known by it's shops, cafés, and due to it's placing in the center of Lisbon's downtown. It's surrounded by magnificent old buildings very interesting from the architectural point of view, each one, by itself, well worth to be seen an photographed. Passing point of Lisbon's charming old trams, and buses, the square is always filled with people working, passing or simply walking around on hollidays.
Before the 1755 earthquake it was the place for 'Hospital de Todos os Santos'.
On the draw of 'Marquês de Pombal' this square was thought as an 'Open Market'. In 1855 a covered market was there built, demolished in the 50's. Nowadays the buildings are occupied by stores, cafes and hotels.
Right on it's side we can find another well known square 'Rossio'.

Hope you enjoy the photo!!! The partial buildings you see at the bottom of the picture (which I don´t like), I couldn't remove them without croping the statue and the castle which I didn't want to.
