Photographer’s Note

Another one from the misty Sintra to join to the misty collection.

This was taken in the Sintra - Cascais National Park, 20km from Lisbon. Sintra it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world and if you visit Portugal you definitely should not miss it. It was a favourite hang out for many romantic poets, including Lord Byron (I think it was him who wrote that when god created the world he was so pleased with his work that he kissed it, and the kiss became Sintra).
There is a special atmosphere in Sintra, a mix of melancholy and fairy tale.
You can also eat the best pastries in the world, here. They are called “travesseiros” and you can get them at the “Piriquita” pastry shop, in the village center.

I often do trekking and hiking on weekends and sometimes organize hikes for groups. This photo was taken in one of those weekend hikes. Sintra has a microclimate and even if it’s sunny in Lisbon and Cascais it can be misty and rainy there, and it’s at its most beautiful in this kind of weather. In this particular day it was rather misty and it almost rained. The sun was trying to get through the bright fog to iluminate the dense woods. In this particular shot we are looking at an easier open area to iluminate and the green vegetation is pretty sunny in the background.
