Photographer’s Note

Piódão is really different from any other portuguese village and that's the interesting thing about it. However it's not easy to get there.

The village has an outline, typical of a mountain settlement. The dominant houses ascend up the slope, sheltered from the winds. Construction materials, were those offered by the hills; schist and wood. The walls have two layers, one exterior with bigger stones and one interior with smaller stones. The slate-roofs, take form of saddle roofs or four side roofs.
