Photographer’s Note

A close look at one of the narrow streets in Óbidos - Portugal.

Óbidos is a medieval walled town of around 3,100 inhabitants in the district of Leiria, Portugal. It is the seat of the municipality of the same name.

The name of the town derives from the Latin term oppidum, meaning "citadel", or "fortified city". The area was taken from the Moors in 1148, and the town received its first charter in 1195, under the reign of Sancho I.

The municipality has an extent of 142.17 km² in area and 10,875 inhabitants (2001), and is subdivided into nine parishes.

I love these medieval cities with such narrow streets, especially on this case with nothing to remember the modern civilization. Very good deph and beautiful colours.

Excellent image of this narrow street. The main differences between this and the ones I have recently posted in the UK is the beautiful flowers (bouganvillia?)and the painted walls. I like the little cat cheekily peeping round the corner.

Uma bela postal de Obidos. A moldura é muito apropiada. As escadas e o angulo das paredes enquadram muito bem as janelas. Gosto também dos detalhes.

Olá António. A beautiful look into the narrow old road, in which the upward view along the cobblestone stairs works nicely to take the viewer into this pleasant scene. Nice disposition of the light to accentuate the variety of details. Also you did a good post-work to enhance the contrasts and colors at the best.
