Photographer’s Note

This photo was taken from Saint George Castle and shows part of the central area of the city of Lisbon, like Sta. Justa Elevator and Ruins of Carmo Convent.

About Lisbon:

The capital and largest city of Portugal, in the western part of the country on the Tagus River estuary. An ancient Iberian settlement, it was held by the Phoenicians and Carthaginians, taken by the Romans in 205 B.C., and conquered by the Moors c. A.D. 714. Reconquered by the Portuguese in 1147, it flourished in the 16th century during the heyday of colonial expansion in Africa and India. The city was devastated by a major earthquake in 1755.

The heart of the city is the Baixa or lower town, this area of the city is being considered for UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The Baixa is organized in a grid-system and a network of squares built after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.

Sometimes is hard to catch the roofs of some town or city, one thing can ruin whole photo, but this photo is perfect. Very good, great job.

Nice view from the top! I think that there is a net between some pictures, capturing a straight road and a church among the roofs in a city.
Just today I saw Emanuela's pic about Napoli called " spaccanapoli". I posted some days ago a Trieste view "Chiesa Serbo-ortodossa e via Roma". We could gather them in a theme!

Hi Antonio,
This is an excellent fraling of the aereal view. You have composed it really well with the street cutting through the houses places on the best place, nice light and contrast.

Ola Antonio, This part of Lisbon is due to its urban plan and architecture very interesting and you captuerd it very well here! I like the compo and the placement of the elevador and the ruin. The pp-work is lovely and the bold framing works very well here.

Esta panorâmica sobre a cidade de Lisboa está fantástica. Os grafismos dos telhados, as cores, a profundidade da imagem, a luz, os contrastes... tudo perfeito. Até a moldura acrescenta um motivo de interesse à foto. Belíssimo trabalho, parabéns!

Nice zoom. Lisbon looks so much crowded this way.

The frame works marvelous. It gives a nice balance to the hole composition.

a nice view from Lisboa .... i don't keep a good souvenir of Lisboa (big city, hard to find an hotel, ....) but i admit that Lisboa is a very nice town ... and i'll go back !
Good POV and Frame, the Saint George Castle (i don't remember the portuguese name !) is a good place for this kind of photo.

Thank you, Antonio, for your view of Lisbon. TE can be nice like that: (right when you forget where you'd like to visit next year,) people put places (back) on the map. I like the ruins of the Carmo convent. What is the yellow building standing to their right?
