In the late 1800's a plague hit orange trees and most crops were destroyed. Many of the orange growers then tuned to a newly introduced plant in the island the Ananas Champaca or pineapple. The pineapples are grown in very controlled sonditions in glass hothouses. The glass are whitewashed to preserve the heat in so that the plants have the optimal condtions. The water tank is between two glass houses and provided the irrigation to the pieneaples. This was taken in the farm where I spent my summer vacation. The pineapples from this palntation where exported by my aunt's canning factory. Beyond the trees you can see a sliver of ocean. In the late summer sperm wahles can be seen often.

More info on Azores and Pienapples
The plant is common throughout the tropics as a fruit plant. Portuguese explorers took over the name Nana Meant ('delicious fruit') from the Indians. At the end of the 17th century pineapples were grown in European greenhouses for consumption, even in the gardens of Versailles in the reign of Louis XV. Two centuries later greenhouse cultivation vanished in favour of import from the Azores.

The pineapples from Sao Miguel are very sweet have a darker color inside and are dark orange on the outside, and contain almost no acidity. It's almost like eating pinaple flavored candy.

Fernando

Hi Cristina, A very well captured near symmetric image of the two glass housed on each side of the water tank. The reflections on the water are beautiful It is nice to see the mirror image of the cloud. The background view is beautiful. A well taken picture with nice contrast and clarity. Well done.

Good strong lines and symmetry around the water, which had a nice deep blue hue to it to contrast against the light blue in the sky. Reflections and the shadows on the left show you had good light. Not at all overexposed on the white either. Good job!

Belas cores, Cristina. A perspectiva está muito boa. Bom trabalho
Um abraço
Leonor

Hi Cristina,
a great one I like a lot -
The perspective and the compo are wonderful.
Thanks
Gaby

Hi Cristina,
A view with perspective and fine colors (sky blue is great), I like the small reflection and the two white panels opposing their color to the dark water.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Beautiful saturated colours, an almost graphical composition - good note too :)

Fica bem,
Fernando

Very nice writeup on how they grow the pineapple. I have you know I work in a warehouse where lots of produce is sent to our province and further beyoond. We carry the Gold Pineapple brand that is very sweet. I love it alot. A suggestion in this photo would be to back up a little and show us the sides of the Greenhouse too. Perhaps a ladder. Having the water on the roof means it all drips onto the plants. Nice work Cristina.

Hi Cristina. I like the depth and symmetry found here. Plus the sky is great with that nice blue sky and interesting clouds. A great note and shot.

Hi Christina! The pineapple plantations we have here is very different from yours. The blue colors of the sky and reflections on the water really attracted me immediately. Sharp and colorful shot! Your notes really give the viewers an idea of the place. rgds.

Hi Cristina,
Great picture with fantastic colours. I like the perspective and the reflections in the water very much as well. Good work! :-D
Groetjes,
Lars

This photo has such wonderful leading lines and a very wide variety of tones from very light to deep and dark. Very nice, Cristina!

Nice strong perspective to the ocean Cristina. The point of view that appears just off of center offers just enough of an imbalence to make it a play between sides as you go into the shot. The colors of the trees and sky enhance the overall atmosphere of the entire shot. But it's the point of view that really worked well here down between the greenhouses.

Great composition, very clear. Love the note.

Hi Cristina,
Without a note I would never have guessed it's about an ananas plantation!
;-D
But the image itself posses not only a graphical value but a very pleasant composition and is a really good combination of colours - where I especially appreciate a huge amount of blue versus white!
Very very interesting pic to look at!
Regards,
Robi

great photo, I like the dof and also the colours, well done

Olá Cristina! Esclarecedora nota sobre o ananás, cuja história desconhecia por completo...
