In the Azores living with the ocean is the way of life. Going to the beach is not an event, but instead a way of daily life specially in the summer. Here in the USA many people jog as a form of daily exercise, in the Azores swiming is the daily exercise.
This photo was taken at the end of the day in Praia do Populo on the same day as overexposed sunset, and Golfinho Azul. You can also see an aerial view by looking at Fernando's, Galmeida . In Sky Overview - S.Miguel Island - Azores , the beach is on the far most right corner of the photo. As a child I swam on this beach almost daily in the summer.

I know the photo is a bit soft, but it was a challenge to deal wit it, first of all the crop was a sacrifice, I wanted to keep the art work by Nizuma (this photo was taken by my cousin and shows the detail of the scultpture) but to do that I would have to keep the sky which was terribly over exposed. I also wanted to keep the couple on the far left as they are important (I feel they are) to the photo.
The photo was cropped, contrast adjusted and shadow/hightlight, neat image 2x, and saved for web.

I used this same photo to do a project the end resuct can be seen here, in TrekLens.

Hi Cristina
Awesome photo ... it almost looks like a painting ... I like the houses in the background the kid on the beach and everything else about this photo .. of course the highlight of your photo is the shades .. cheers for a great shot ... sarju

wow, Cristina, Just cam e back from a 'sixties' party and was stupid enough to put on the PC, but I'm greatly rewarded, and after this crit I will gladly go to bed.
What a terrific image you give us here, the golden light and the rough water and the rocks all in this glorious light, with those beautiful sunrays. The boy is the magical element in it, and also those two people in the left upper corner. I like it how I can still see the village in the background, Oh and the sea is so nice and so very rough.
A favorite for me, Cristina, thank for sharing

Cristina,
I am in love with this photo! The layers of gold make me feel the warmth of the sunset and the joy this young man must feel to be in such a beautiful place. Absolutely wonderful!!!

Hello Cristina,
Excelent work and well seen daily life and culture. Thanks to post my name link and work at TE in your picture. It's great and also this fantastic golden artwork of nature. Possible one of your great ones as sensibility, creative and art post. Impressive, Life, Sun and Mistery to the new world of knowledge and justice!

Very pleasing and interesting shot. I like these types of picture. I posted something similar on Trek Lense today with water as the main theme in rich uniform colours. Very well done Cristina.

Fantastic photo. I just love it!

Wow, the way the water is just suspended as it is makes an incredible backdrop. The light streaks really work here must have been a real bear to handle. My compliments on how it turned out- a real stunner.

Wow, fantastic shot Cristina !
I like the powerfull sea contrasting well with the attitude of the guy, who is quiet.
The light is so beautiful, I like the gold color.
Excellent atmosphere, well done !

This is a beautiful photo Cristina, it has several levels which make it so enjoyable to look at - there is the child playing in the sand, the sea showing its strength and the couple watching it all.

Congradulation for such a marvellous shot, Christina! The last sunbeams in the spray, producing unique light conditions. Waves breaking in those different layers of rocks and the playing child in the sand; simply phantastic. Very well composed!

A great picture, Cristina. The golden light in the waves of this violent sea, is wonderful. The little boy seems to be fully concentrated on his sand buildings despite the fury of watrers and the declining light. The white fishermen houses on top are locating this story and finally, a couple looking at the sea on top left. Excellent !

Your title is well chosen, the tones are amazing the light like a gold rain,it's magic!
The child gives a idea of the little human shade face to the nature power.Congratulation, good sunday,
vincent

Cristina, what a wonderful shot. Beautifully composed (great crop though you say it was a sacrifice), and absolutely super light especially as it reflects off the rough water. Excellent atmospheric work - I love it.

Wow - you did a wonderful job here - not an easy task I believe but you manage to get very dramatic and special atmosphere due to the golden colours and the caotic water surface. What I like most in this picture is the boy on the beach. Without it, it would just be not the same. Yes, the colors, the waves and the atmosphere is nice, but the boy adds a special touch.

Hi Cristina, A very powerful composition and a very nice presentation. I am jealous of you to have such beautiful beach as part of your daily life. A perfect timing to catch the ocean wave. The ocean waves become very powerful under this sunlight angle. Yet, a kid is playing building his sand castle despite of the raising tilde. A beautiful shot and an excellent photo. Thank you for sharing.

Wow, Cristina - this is really a gem. A stunning play of golden tones, a very good rendition of the dynamics of the sea, and fine compositional details with the kid playing on the beach and the couple in the upper left corner. Like an impressionist painting, only better :-) Very nice.

Incredible and dynamic, Cristina. The play of light and shadow here is wonderful. The boy on the beach just makes the scene, as does the slice of dark sand he is crouching upon. A real contribution to TE. Regards.

Great shot Cristina!

Some really great elements which combine to make an awesome shot.
The reflection of light on the wet sand creates a nice diagional. The rocky shore adds a nice touch of layering in different shadows. The mist coming off the water enhances the rays of the sun cutting through the trees, and the addition of the young boy playing in the sand adds the human element.

Beautifully composed Cristina~ Bravo!

I think there are times where you need crisp sharp photos and times where softness is ok. This is definitely one of those places where softness is ok. It's the light that serves it well here. It's beautiful as it filters through the mist from the crashing waves. It also creates an atmosphere where I can hear these waves smashing all over the place. The shading of the rocks gives nice layering to the shot. And the person in front is a great focal point that links well to the included couple in the distance. That certainly gives the final beautiful and excellent touches. It's certainly impressive throughout and creates sucha pleasent atmosphere to look at.

Hi Cristina!!
what a beautyful colors!!! it`s great to see some places like this!

A beautiful image, the sunlight filtered through the spray creates a fantastic effect. I think that cropping the upper part with the houses, artwork and couple would be very beneficial. The artwork of nature is absolutely enough for this image and one shouldn't distract from it. The kid in the foreground adds the point of interest that the picture needs. Absolutely gorgeous.

fantastic light, something of a quiet (and glorious) sunset glow allied to furious waters hitting ominous rock shapes, while a kid plays, impervious to the spectacle of nature at its grandest. fabulous contrasts indeed, my eyes only beg you could have framed it a bit wider even.

This is very good work indeed - the colours are really good, the crashing water looks great & is well captured. And the mist gives a nice effect as well. I also like how there's evidence of activity in the image - the boy on the sand, the couple & also the buildings in the distance.

Great shot, Cristina! Simply outstanding movement of the water and impressive color of the cadre. Thanks for sharing!
regards,
Greg

I will make this round as it merits all attantion for the marvellous golden light/sunrays and the suggestive elements of the wild ocean and the little boy so intens with his dream play in the sand, while on top two other watching over the sea and very soft the houses in the background, like a painting very well done

Amazing light! And such colours... Not the cool pistachio of Annecy but the warm golden sand of Portugal.

I imagine it was difficult to include the child - who makes the picture - and as much as possible of the town behind, the artwork and that tiny couple there... Anyway you succeeded in giving us a very moody and magical image, thank you for that.

* I think this one is perfect for my "Pure Gold" theme. I hope you won't mind?

This is just totally magical - just amazing Cristina - there is just so much going on here that Jerzy's workshop was a minor relief - it really is an incredible image - I think I could look at this and never be bored - just beautiful light and movement and colour and composition! No space in my favourites but a favourite it is!

best wishes Kev

Hola Cristina. Buen trabajo.

Wonderful image! Stunning contrasts of light and color... good capture of movement here too, I can feel, breathe, hear and see this scene so clearly in my head. Nice to be able to slightly see what's behind too, to give an idea of where this was or else it could have been a beach from anywhere. Just beautiful!

Hello Cristina. Superb capture and apt title. The sprites on the surf make this a memorable shot. I prefer the tighter crop, but the people add a different element.
Greg

Unbelievably beautiful place and you have done a great job with this image. Although the second version, which is cropped more tightly, is also nice I prefer the one with the couple on the upper left hand side. The colours are incredible and this is definitely a place that I would fly to immediately right now!

Hi Cristina - this is incredible, the light, the waves and the human element all come together ideally, indeed a masterpiece.

Hi Cristina, This is a real great one!
Can't believe this child was still playing with sand, when looking at the rough sea and myst behind. The scene is very dynamic. The golden tones are just superb, I think for this typical shot it's good that there are not too much different contrasting tones, but very uniform.
Great compo with the child small in the corner, much scene around. Maybe two parents looking in the upper left corner? I don't know, probably they aren't..but the idea is nice. Maybe they we're just enjoying the scene to from another POV.
Myst is great. Supershot!
