The weather here in Britain is still atrocious and it appears as though we are expecting further storms, heavy rains, flooding and high winds.
So again I thought that I would try to cheer up myself and others with a picture from Portugal's Algarve taken in August last year. This is the beach at Praia da Luz, the white buildings of the town seen on the right, the Atlantic Ocean on the left and tourists and locals relaxing in the warm sun on the lovely soft sand of the beach.
Perhaps it's time to think about a summer holiday in 2014?

Hello John ,
i'm not sure that the temperatures are hot enough for swimming these days in Algave , but for sure , the weather is better than in our regions ! Lot of wind , rains and floods in Brittany , too . However , I must say that I prefer that situation than cold and snow ...
And as you say , it is time to make dreans of summer holydays , with a picture like this . I don't know the reason , but colors , and especially the sky looks a little strange .

so theres no snow? Just rain and wind? Are you sure you're not living and hiding out in vancouver?
Well, lets hope though you dont get any flooding, thats an entirely different ballgame.
So now we get to see some sun and warmth, looks good to me. you may not like heights, and for me.....i dont like little boats. You'd have to drug me up to get me into one of those tiny death traps lol
Love the photo though, colorful, bright, and it looks quiet despite all the people around. Super crisp and clear with perfect exposure. Really like it.
Have a good one!

Lovely composition and colours John and it's great to look forward by looking back too. Happy days by the look of this one and fairly early in the morning judging by the empty spaces to choose from. Can almost feel the sun shining - Nice choice of subject too as I look out at the rain hammering down outside and the wind howling down the chimney:)

Well, I might be one of the very few...but I'd be happy if Summer stayed away for a nice long time! :) Never hurts to start planning early for a vacation though, right?
A great way to recall the joys of the warmer climate and season, I imagine you're but one of millions who would love to escape the cold and gloomy weather about now. At the very least, you have this nice memory to look back on. I like how you've put this together too, using the arrangement of colorful boats as an anchor to the foreground. Sorry, couldn't help but throw in a nautical word here. haha
I read your forum notes, and there does appear to be a magenta cast over the image, but I don't feel it detracts from your message and overall presentation of a lively and inviting beach scene. That being said, it's time for a swim and a sunburn! :) Hope you had a wonderful holiday season. All the best in 2014.
Friendly wishes from the desert,

wonderful beach and nice to dream of the warm sand and water. I like the composition with the colourful kayaks, higher the layer of fitting umbrellas and finally the white town on the horizon. Marvelous dream :).
In Warsaw the weather is not so dramatic, it is quite warm, around 7 deg and of course ni snow. Too early to plan summer holidays, there are spring holidays before.
Warm regrads malgo

we can only dream at the moment. It has been so bad down here for over 2 weeks now, and Shoreham High Street was flooded again a few days ago as the river burst through the flood defences. Needed one of these colourful canoes in this super and idyllic beach scene. Lets hope we get some decent summer weather this year to compensate.......don't hold your breath though!
Enjoy your Sunday - B.

Having seen the weather reports on BBC, I can quite understand that you guys over in Britain are longing for summer again.
Lovely summer holiday shot indeed.
But as real winters person myself, I just can't wait for real winter and snow to arrive over here in the Swiss lowlands. Until now the temperatures have been much to high, almost like spring, over here. OK, in the alps there is enough snow for the moment, but given the peculiar winter we have, the risk of avalanches is very high at the moment. Still, my skis are ready and of I go as soon as the weather permits.
have a great sunday

Ah yes, again I smile at the sights of summer and for a moment, I can drown out the howling winds and think of warm sun and bare feet on sand. Ireland has lots of damage and floods too and worse expected tonight so I am very happy to enjoy this warm, bright, cheerful and colorful scene.
All the best

I like the title and your note: I am glad you wrote it -if I did it people would accuse me of being negative and also this is not my country so I am not supposed to criticize the weather. But if you do it is is so much more convincing :)
Beautiful beach photo which refreshes distant memories of summer days. Great use of the kayaks in the foreground they add some extra color and diagonal lines.
Beautiful view. Something to dream about indeed.
