Just another post to show the old Church of the old Monastery of Seiça.
It existed already in the 12th century and still in the same century it was inhabited by the monks of the Cister Order, that had also the Monastery of Alcobaça. Protected by the crown during the Middle Age, it was abolished by King John III but a few years later, still in the 16th century, King Sebastian gave it back to the Order of Cister.
It was rebuilt in the 16th/17th centuries, following a project of Mateus Rodrigues.
Today it's completely abandoned and the most interesting part is still the big church in Mannerist style, that we can see here! Unfortunately, a big part of it has disappeared because the building was adapted to become a factory in the 19th century.

I like very much the similar and slightly different takes of this post, all of them offer great perspective and capture of the fascinating textures and light. This picture is wonderful too, the quality of the lighting and the atmosphere it creates is superb. It's great how lighting helps define space. Well done and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Hello Ana - I really do like this little series. Each shot has been carefully considered and you have a knack for photographing derelict buildings and bringing out the beauty in them. I love the light in this one. Atmospheric shot with such subtle detail and contrast. Warm regards rosemary

Very nice shot. I like the way you have played the light and the shadowed areas . The small door at the right is giving us some perspective.

J'aime beaucoup la construction de cette image qui fait bien surgir de l'ombre les formes et les arches. On ressent bien la texture de la vieille pierre.

kind of solemn and moody picture, you can feel history speaking in its every stone. Good play of light and shadow and a pleasant touch of green on the ancient walls.

Ruins as depicted here always have an enchantment about them as there is so much history accompanying this and It must have been magnificent in its day. Great narrative and a grand image to go with it in excellent compositions, the detail in the stonework is simply superb with the majestic arches giving the strength and depth with a lovely pov. And can't resist to view the bright door. A good shot, age and beauty. Good effort and credit to fine photographic work, and thanks for sharing. Congrats

Beautiful ruin, love all the details of the rustic and decade of the architecture. I can also imagine this to be very nice in black and white photo. Good texture, good quality and lovely composition.

You managed well, Ana, inspite of the difficult light conditions.
Some authority must take a decision, and keep this place open, not to be abandoned, and renovated. There is a fine potential. Yet, I can understand local economic hardship that prevailes.
Fine taken from chosen POV.

Vous avez un don particulier pour valoriser des lieux particuliers.
Vous savez créer une ambiance tout à fait adaptée au site.
L'image est belle sans conteste.
Très bonne journée.

Beautiful use of dark and light here, the dark looking sinister, while the light looking beautiful despite its decay. The design of the church is wonderful, and it is hard to imagine this being a factory, with its beautiful arches. The greens of nature taking over are fantastic.

You're capturing this old monastery in Middle age by a good angle and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the strong structure with a good design and profound pillars. You catch well the shade with shadow/highlight from entire image. And, the ivy involved in the architecture draws out a good mood in this image.
