This is another post of the old Monastery of Seiça.
It existed already in the 12th century and still in the same century it was inhabited by the monks of the Cister Order, that had also the Monastery of Alcobaça. Protected by the crown during the Middle Age, it was abolished by King John III but a few years later, still in the 16th century, King Sebastian gave it back to the Order of Cister.
It was rebuilt in the 16th/17th centuries, following a project of Mateus Rodrigues.
Today it's completely abandoned and the most interesting part is still the big church in Mannerist style, that we can see here! Unfortunately, a big part of it has disappeared because the building was adapted to become a factory in the 19th century.

Hello Ana - A beautiful image and a good follow up to your previous post. This is a shot that needs to be lingered over to appreciate the complexities. You have managed the soft light so well, I like the subtle shading with deep dark areas and brighter contrasts. The colours are superb. To my eyes this is a triumph, I wish it were mine. Top class Have a lovely weekend rosemary

Un beau cadrage vertical qui fait bien ressortir le vert qui semble pousser directement sur la pierre. J'aime beaucoup la texture de l'image.

you have framed this section of the antique monastery in an exquisite way, your composition is very well balanced and attractive, with wonderful depth and perspective, fascinating lighting, textures, colours and atmosphere. You captured the magnificence of the antique architecture and its present state in a superb detailed way. The play of light and shadows is beautiful and vivifies the view. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

I like all of the monastery photos. This one seems a bit more focused on the vegetation and really does give an "end of life" feel to the building. I like the varying textures from the stonework to the bricks to the plants.

Bem visto.
