Photographer’s Note

I'm posting another Church of the Alentejo, just to make a break in my photos from Myanmar.
This is another simple church that I like a lot. It's situated in the countryside, several kilometres far from Estremoz, in the little Parish of Santo Estêvão.
It's devoted to Santo Estêvão and I guess no one knows exactly when it was really built, but it existed already in the 16th century. In the 19th century it has been rebuilt, we can still see the date (1896) written on the facade. The benches were used by the pilgrims who used to come to this place in the old days.The old bell is not there at this moment, as we can see here.

The base of the cross, like others in the region, is decorated with skulls sculpted on marble, the stone of this region (I've included a detail in the Ws).

Linda e singela igrejinha, uma arquitetura despojada mas cheia de significados - como a caveira na base da cruz. Excelente composição, ótimo POV, muito boa luz e belas cores.

Olá Ana,
mais uma simpatica igrejinha para companhia a tantas outras em sua bela galeria. Achei curioso o nome, e a grafia, será que escreve assim, mesmo, com dois acentos? Pelo menos na grafia brasileira acredito que não, seria apenas Estevão, mas posso estar enganado, já que no termo jurídico existe a palavra Acórdão.

Hi Ana,

This is a simple structure in a isolated place, but the combination of colours is wonderful. White colour of church with dark blue sky and redish forground is looking very nice. Good piece of framing. Congrats.

Olá Anabela,
uma boa quebra para as fotos de Myanmar. O lugar é lindo e a simplicidade da capela encanta. As árvores a direita são oliveiras? Pergunto sempre porque aqui no Brasil elas não existem!
O céu caracteristicamente azul combina de maneira perfeita com a igreja azul e branca.
Bela mostra.

La blancheur de cette petite église qui semble perdue au milieu de nulle part, est d'une grande beauté par sa simplicité architecturale. De plus, l'ensemble se détache merveilleusement sur ce ciel d'un bleu pur.
Il se dégage une sérénité toute particulière à travers cette composition.

essa capela parece ser bem isolada. Fico imaginando como as pessoas chegavam para a missa, pois parece estar num lugar alto. A foto foi bem capturada, com cores naturais, um bonito céu azul e brilho na medida certa. Gosto do resultado que você nos apresenta. Parabéns!

buen encuadre sobre esta pequeña iglesia y su entorno, en el que podemos ver una arquitectura sencilla pero muy bonita, nada ostentosa en su ornamentación, pero con un buen efecto estético.
El cielo azul y la buena luz completan esta bella imagen.

Mais uma para a bela colecção de ermidas brancas e azuis! Como sempre, a luminosidade bem trabalhada e o POV esta´muito bem escolhido - enfim... talvez esteja demasiado centrado, mas se a tivesse visto antes de me viciar no TE nem sequer repararia nisso.

i would love you to produce a book of your Portuguese churches, Ana.You have a way of making them look so wonderful. This one is bright, crisp ans sharp and with a play between the sculptural form of the church and the blue, blue sky.I wonder if people still use these churches much in Portugal. I remember being saddened by so many ancient churches in rural France, empty, except for a couple og old women.Regards Kevin

Na minha foto de São Matias, Luis (adramad) perguntou se a cruz com terminação horizontal é característica da zona. Eu disse-lhe que talvez não e que nem nas tuas fotos via. Talvez nos possas esclarecer, já que aqui temos uma cruz idêntica.

Ana,
This is a great shot with excellent light management. The angle of the shot works well allowing us to see the depth of the building. The deep blue sky provides excellent contrast for the white church. The polarizer did its job beautifully here!

Hi Ana! You are the master of Alentejo, which is my favourite region in Portugal. Even if you don't mention in your note, I can understand this photo is purely Alentejan with its blue stripped lovely chapel, tranquil atmosphere, cork and olive trees around. You've combined very nicely the reddish colour of the soil and the blue sky. Best regards, Tolga
