Photographer’s Note

Nota em português: clica aqui.
Many of you know already the outstanding collection of Churches in the Alentejo, especially the little chapels in the countryside, posted by Ana Dores (adores). She has posted also São Matias (see here). So, if Ana doesn't know much about this chapel (16th and 17th centuries), I don't know who can tell us more. I just quote her:
"This is a little chapel situated between Montemor-o-Novo and Évora, in a little place called São Matias. (...) It's usually closed, except for special celebrations and there's a little local cemetery very close. It's just a simple rural chapel like many others we can find in this region." It is 9,2 km (5.7 mi) west of the wall of Évora, by the road N114.
But my title has something else. At the back of the chapel (east side) there is a Casa de Pasto (see workshop); literally it means "house of grazing", but it is an old Portuguese name for a tavern or small restaurant. It seemed that this Casa de Pasto was closed when I was here in 2007. Perhaps its business fell when the highway A6 became the main link between Lisbon and Spain (since 1999), instead of the old road N114.
Location: 38.5902165, -8.0050635.
