There are many sheep in Portugal. About 10 million ewes, rams and lambs.
The sheep in Portugal do not get tired of always following the same shepherds. Prior to 1974 they followed the same shepherd (and his successor) for 48 years. This shepherd had some farms in Africa and when the black sheep revolted, he ordered the white sheep to go there to calm the black flocks. But in 1974 the Portuguese sheep finally got tired of the inglorious struggles in Africa and the lack of freedom in Portugal and they revolted against the shepherd. He fled to Brazil and for two years the Portuguese flock went a bit adrift, without a shepherd who managed to control the situation.
In 1976 the Portuguese sheep took the opportunity to choose new shepherds. So began a scheme in which, during these 33 years, they always choose a shepherd from one of just two families, despite more than a dozen shepherds present themselves to lead the flock. Sometimes the Portuguese sheep claim against the shepherd, but when it comes the time to choose, they always turn to a shepherd of one of those families.
On last September 27th the Portuguese sheep were again asked to choose the shepherd. Four out of ten sheep did not attend the call (and afterwards they complain that the other sheep did a bad choice). The other six (out of ten) divided the choices as follows:
- Social-democratic shepherds (PS, PSD, MEP, MMS, PPM, MPT-PH, PTP): 67%; of which PS 36% and PSD 29%;
- Communist shepherds (BE, PCP-PEV, PCTP, POUS): 19%;
- Christian-democratic shepherds (CDS-PP, SNE, PPV, PNR): 11%;
- Void and blank choices: 3%
This photo was taken in the rural area of the municipality of Seixal, between Verdizela and Belvedere. As you can see, the Portuguese sheep did not care about radical shepherds, such as those who climb the lampposts.

Isto parece um exagero, Francisco !!
Demás pode ser dito sobre qualquer nação, também!!
O próprio Sir Winston Churchill afirmou que a democracia não é perfeita, mas até agora ninguém inventou nada melhor!!
Esse sistema pode falhar porque nós, os cidadãos, somos humanos e em geral, imperfeitos. Mas o que é mais importante, isse é o único mecanismo socio-político que pode-se corrigir um erro e mudar de rumo. Os regimes não-democráticos não oferecem essa opção!!!

Portanto, devemos sempre lutar pela nossas democracias, amigo!!

Muito interessante sua nota bem politizada, juntamente com sua imagem. Por aqui também as ovelhas são mais ou menos assim. Um trabalho muito bom, executado com inteligência e competência. Parabéns!

Olá Francisco. As ovelhas portuguesas ainda têm medo do cão. O texto está um espectáculo, assim como a tua resposta ao Amaz. E daqui a pouco mais de uma semana, lá iremos outra vez e desta, a triplicar. A foto, de 2004, foi bem guardada para a ocasião e tem boas cores e um bom pov de traseira, já que raramente dão a cara e dizem que escolheram aquele pastor. Coisas. Um abraço. Paulo

gostei da foto, inusitada com este mix de ovelhas, homens sobre postes, carros e pinhais.gostei do inusitado da cena que tem boa luz e nitidez e está bem construída.como já disse antes, não só as ovelhas lusas que gostam dos mesmos pastores. há alguns anos um amigo meu da espanha reclamava que no cogresso eram sempre as mesmas famílias na política deste o franco ou muito antes dele. qual a diferença ? aqui no br se vc apanhar os políticos dos anos 50 e puxar a linha de descendentes vai ver que são os mesmo ainda hoje. enfim, como dizia o nobre lampeduza: é preciso mudar as coisas para que tudo fique igual.. por falar nisso, ando louco para ver o nosso pastor brasileiro (que adora bater pernas) longe dos nossos bolsos e vidas

The problem is the sheep always get confused about what are a democratic privilege and an obligation. In the sheepland of Portugal, voting is not compulsory and people wrongly believe it should be like that. As “xuaxo” says afterwards they complain that the other sheep did a bad choice. With ~40%, the absentees are part of the biggest political party in Portugal. Sad but true!!!

Interessante que eu estava vendo ainda hoje fotografias antigas de meu avô português, tiradas em 1937 em Portugal, e em diversas delas via-se ovelhas. Aqui a imagem ficou muito interessante, transmitindo paz e tranquilidade apesar do automóvel.

what a scene, indeed! so many sheep! and a man at the very top of the lamppost! :) how interesting :)
I can't see such scenes in Moscow, for sure LOL
I like the moment which you captured; and composition-wise, the car on the left balances well the blue advertising on the right.
I don't know why but I would cut a bit of the right side of the photo... if you don't mind? Please have a look at the Workshop :)

pelo visto aí é como cá, e na única vez que mudou o paritdo do poder aqui (Partido dos Trabalhadores) a lambança é total... Vamos ver na eleição para presidente ano que vem. Bem interessante sua foto com as ovelhas.
