Photographer’s Note

The city parks with big lawns, flowers and other watered plants, are usually called "green zones" in Portugal.
But, for the ecologist or environmental point of view, these parks are not really green, because they require a high cost for maintenance, such as for irrigation and tending of the plants; they consume lots of water, energy and chemicals. The lawn mowing, as shown in this picture, requires a large consumption of fuel during the year.
The real green areas are, on the other hand, areas of natural vegetation that require no specific treatment, such as most of the Monsanto Park in Lisbon.
This picture was taken this morning in the Serrado Park, in the city of Amora, municipality of Seixal. Same park of the photo Zeca Afonso.
