Photographer’s Note

Its history takes us back to the Roman occupation in which place there was a temple in honor of Neptune, the Latin god of the seas. In 1390, while D. Joao I reigned, a tower for the vigilance of the coast was built and in 1572 improvements to the basic infra-structure were also made. During the 19th century it served as a prison and later on, between 1889 and 1908, it became one of the official holiday residences of the Royal Family, king D. Carlos and Queen D. Amelia. Since 1909 it has been converted into an orthopedic hospital, functioning as such ever since.

In Portugal both inland and along the coast there's vast number or ruins and preserved old forts. Here I wanted to express this particular unison of old architecture that stands close to most beautiful Portuguese blue sea - a visual experience on a hot sunny day that can hardly be beaten by anything else (see my previous post).
