Fisherman at Work Photo

Photographer’s Note

Back after a long absence due to an hardware problem with my cmoputer, today I give you a bit of the life of a fisherman.
During a walk around Sesimbra I decided to go till the docks near where the fishermen boats are parked and I saw this man preparing his material maybe for his next working day.
His face marked with the effort of working for years in the sea, his clothes so typical from the fishermens, the atmosphere typical from the old docks grounded me and made took this one.

Hello Paulo. I think the scene has a real photographic potential but the composition is lacking a bit of dynamic. What bothers me most is your black and white conversion which presents a dull range of greys, lacking contrast. The fisherman's face came out underexposed and the skin tones are way too dark. I'm posting a workshop for you with my personal view on the subject. Cheers.

Great focusing on the fisherman and his actions;the b/w suits the shot as we are not distracted by the colour of the b/g.

Olá Paulo,
el blanco y negro funciona perfectamente aquí, creo que es la opción más adecuada para este tipo de foto, espontánea, dinámica y de reportaje de la vida cotidiana.
Has trabajado con maestría la profundidad de campo, dejando el fondo desenfocado para realzar el protagonista de tu foto, que se destaca con todo detalle.
El trabajo con la luz es excelente, parece una foto ya pensada en blanco y negro antes de tomarla.
Una gran foto, amigo mío, la añado a mis favoritas.

Olá Paulo, gosto muito desta, se bem que o WS do Gal melhorou bastante. A luz está porreira, o cenário desfocado lá atás é bem conseguido e o enquadramento à frente é perfeito. Talvez ele pudesse estar menos centrado - e mais para a esquerda - mas a acção e expressão dele estão bem apanhados e a camisa e barrete são extras muito bons.

Une belle photo en N&B avec l'attitude très spontanée du pêcheur en plein travail, juste une remarque, le pêcheur est peut être un peu trop au centre de l'image, on verreait bien plus d'espace sur la gauche pour accompagner le sens du regard de l'homme. Excellente mise au point aussi;

I like the effect of backlight, combined with focus making the man really stand out...
I might try to offset a tad, in particular since he is looking to one side...

Hi Paulo. Nice capture of the man in his environment. I think the blurred hand adds a dynamic element to the photo. Nice shallow DOF to emphasis the fisherman also. Well captured and thanks for sharing.

Good shot against backlight...the effort shows on his face as does the motion blur to show the action happening. Choice of B&W is ideal here & lovely use of DOF. Very well done!

Olá Paulo,
excelente retrato deste pescador a trabalhar.
gosto da expressão "carregada" do rosto dele.
E o fundo com os barcos desfocados realça ainda mais o homem.
O contraste também está perfeito.
E calor esta foto so resulta mesmo a P&B.
