Photographer’s Note
Cabo Espichel is a place not to miss just outside Lisboa and Sesimbra. As well as being in an excellent place to provide contact with Nature and the Atlantic Ocean.
I guess that was one reason for my TE friends Jose Elias and Sofia when they took me here when we met some time ago.
We can find an agglomeration of constructions which is a sanctuary dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Cabo (The Virgin of the Cape). The church is flanked by buildings which used to serve as a hospice to pilgrims, today everything has been abandoned and is in ruins.
The main altar is Baroque in style and contains some paintings of the same era. The church dates from late XVII/early XVIII century. The blue and white tiles are symbolic of the Virgin. The main altar has a platform which was used by the kings when they visited the church. The architect of this church was João Antunes. The ceiling of the main aisle is painted with XVIII century scenes and the walls are mainly covered with Baroque paintings. The church has two shrines on either side, all from the XVIII century.
In the vestry, two excellent paintings from the XVI century signed by Mestre da Lourinhã depict S. Tiago and Sto. António. A further five paintings which hang with these are from a later date. A fine ark from the XVIII century completes the collection of artifacts found in the vestry. The façade is representative of early Baroque: the portal is crowned by a scallop shell set in stone from the early XVIII century.
The original chapel from which originates the legend of Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel from the XV or XVI centuries is little more than a white stain near the ocean, a few metres from the sanctuary. Of tiny proportions, it possesses an interesting bulbous cupola. The tiles inside, covering part of the walls are from the XVIII century.

hi jack,
you may guess i love this sort of post processing - strong contrasts, highly detailed work, excellent textures...
and the architecture was astonishingly "generous" - playing with you so well;
an interesting photo,

Bonjour Jack
Très belle image par sa composition avec ce long batiment sur la droite et ensuite par son traitement
qui lui donne un coté dramatique.
Très beau travail!

Hi Jack. A good work of composing for this shot, playing with the dimensions of the buildings in a good way to build perspective from a well-chosen shooting point. As far as the hollywood-style post-processing - well it is not totally to my liking, to be honest, but as a case study of what can be accomplished with the clarify tool and related stuff it certainly has merit for the site. Greetings from Japan.

Hello Jack,
The atmosphere is sinister, but this composition in black and white is successful with a perspective bringing our glance on this church.

Hi Jack,
happened upon this. Very interesting, great b&w and excellent pp. Creates a very odd effect, which I suppose you wanted. Bit like Jerzy's effect on his Polish buildings.

I was asking if it was HDR when i've read your reply to cessy. Nice effect on the walls... and the light is really nice also.
I've dropped Clarify and similar produtions... somehow i start to think they are easy winners to public in general, but not with this one ... i think this is a very genuine work, very good taste.

Hi, Jack. What I like here is the excellent perspective you've created using the buildings on the right to lead us into the picture. The church appears between the cross and the buildings and is excellently framed. I must confess I don't like the post-processing too much, but the perspective is really excellent.

The first idea that comes to me is "Dürher" because it looks like one of his special ink works.
The choice of elements teh depth, the great and long perspective here makes a superb work.
This is a very interesting place and monument

good evening Jack
A photograph?
I especially think of an engraving with the charcoal like we can found in the books of XVIII century literatures. The composition is interesting and very original. However I allow myself to suggest masking the pannel.
Cheers.

Cette photo, Jack, a le charme d'un dessin au fusain. J'aime cette belle perspective de l'abri des pélerins avec une répétition d'arcades du meilleur effet. Cette perspective amène le regard sur cette chapelle lumineuse.
Excellent !

Hello, Jack!
This kind of monochrome graphic seems to be very popular on TE lately... Imust try it too, because i become to be a fan of this kind! However, it is the right way to show such an architecture - old and impressive, telling stories. Very nice shot and really stunning place!

Hi Jack
This is an impressive shot for a number of reasons. The pov is superb as it really emphasizes the depth of the scene; the post processing gives us an original look and feel to the building; and the tonality of the picture gives it a surrealist interpretation. Great note to give us the history of this place. Very well done.

Great Photo. I love the mystical feel that you created. The final processing works very well with the atmosphere of the church and court yard. The POV and clouds work very well. It's a motivation photo to get others to play with the final processing.

Hello Jack,
Fabulous POv here, with a perfect sense of depth due to the extensive arcades and windows that lead our eyes directly to the church on the bottom.
The contrast is perfect and the light too.
