Sesimbra Carnival
The Carnival is one of the highlights in the town of Sesimbra. Much of their success is due to the commitment of hundreds of volunteers who, months before, begin to prepare everything in detail.
The parades of the Samba Schools and groups, which together have more than two thousand participants, are the most developed in Portugal and take it as the main focus of the program.
Sesimbra Carnival also includes parades of schools, bringing together hundreds of children and the traditional Clown Parade, one of the largest in the world.
The traditions also mark presence in these days with the ‘Cegadas’, Street Theaters that are more than 100 years old, the ‘Cavalhadas’ and the Burial of the Cod, which marks the end of the revelry

About Samba:
The name samba likely comes from the Angolan semba (or mesemba), a type of ritual music, but this has been disputed. Portuguese ethnographer and folklorist Edmundo Correia Lopes talks about a dance from the Portuguese Guinea to which Brazilian people gave the name of samba, which would be, according to him, a very close relative to Brazilian samba.

Ola Paulo,

Nicely captured and exposed, with a great note and wonderfully amplifying workshop photographs. That makes for a story to follow and give more of a perspective of the actual event. Very colorful!

I'm glad you chose this one as the main image in the gallery, but the workshop #1 is pretty cool, too!

Esta foto esta boa...mas as do Ws são a meu ver ainda melhores.Por vezes na hora de decidir ficamos na duvida.As cores estão muito boas bem como a luz desse belo dia. Parece-me que o pessoal não é dado muito a Carnaval:)

Parece que o Carnaval de Sesimbra foi bom este ano Mas estas meninas certamente que não são brasileiras a ver pela quantidade de trapos que trazem vestidos!!!
Está bonita, com muita cor e alegria, como se pretende nestas ocasiões.

Olá Paulo,
Uma imagem muito interessante, as cores estão alegres, a luminosidade está muito bonita, o sol pegando os corpos de lado e dando realce aos chapéus dos assistentes na arquibancada. Uma vez vi um documentário sobre ritos e danças na África e havia uma dança e um batuque muito parecidos com o samba do Brasil - claro, como disseste, é da África que o samba vem.

gostei de quase tudo na foto, bela luz, cores, enquadramento, nitidez, assunto, paisagem, pov, etc.. pena que o rosto contorcido da passista principal tenha quebrado um pouco do encanto da imagem, a que está na lateral está muito mais bem mostrada. mas em se tratando de eventos de rápido movimento há que contar com a sorte, não se pode ter tudo. belo trabalho

Bom dia Paulo, pena que ela não esteja de olhos abertos e um sorriso aberto de orelha a orelha. Tirando esse detalhe que dificilmente se pode controlar pois já há muitos outros parâmetros a ter em atenção, é uma boa foto do carnaval. Bom jogo de cor no triângulo formado pelas duas jovens de vermelho e o passaroco verde lá atrás. Infelizmente não tenho pachorra para ir a estas confusões pois são excelentes oportunidades para fotografia.

Very colorful and beautiful shot, mainly due to these two charming girls! The quality, colors and light are perfectly good. The note is also very good, but why you said nothing about the air temperature on that day? This is a very important piece of information in this case. There were minus 7˚C here, no carnivals were seen in the city…
