Clown parade in Sesimbra, Carnival of 2009

This is one of the biggest non-professional clown concentrations in the world. Enjoy the Carnival parade in Sesimbra , one week of non-stop partying and sun.
Sesimbra is a place where the Carnival has a lot of tradition and like in many other places in Portugal, it’s nowadays very influenced by the Brazilian Carnival. And this is not strange has Portugal and Brazil share a common history, traditions and language. Also, with the coming of Brazilian emigrants to Portugal the Samba arrived with them and soon many local cultural associations adopted the joy of this dance in their festivities!

The program begins with the parades of schools of the county, the 6th Sunday, leaving on Saturday for the street the female group "Mijona Trip" and on Monday, the Parade of Clowns - fills the village of color and joy.

On Ash Wednesday, the funeral of Cod marks the culmination of a period of revelry.

During these days the Cegadas cover some of the villages with their satirical criticism always tested.

Sesimbra live the Carnival 24 hours a day, with joy, color, animation and a great art of hospitality that attracts thousands of tourists every year.

Muito bem apanhado, esse festival de cores e boa disposição! Não é fácil evitar um certo ar caótico nestas situações, mas tu conseguiste-o muito bem, tanto aqui como no WS, que, apesar de menos atraente, está bem conseguido e é excelente como complemento da apresentação.

This must be an amazing carnaval that only clowns can be participant. Your photo shows a real TE spirit.

Excellent capture of crowded clowns -I never saw them like this a lot together- with their colorful costumes, make-ups and balloons. Great light, amazingly rich number colors. Have a nice new week.

Bom dia Filipe, que explosão de cor tão hipnótica. Acho que estas duas fotos mostram a razão pelo qual evito o Carnaval, mesmo sabendo que perco muitas oportunidades de fotografia. A confusão no WS é irreal. Interessante para jogar ao "onde está o Wally". Curioso como o 'Olá' lá atrás desaparece nesta onda de cor.

Hi Filipe, I missed the carnaval in Sesimbra and went to Sines instead. I don't know which carnaval is much more popular in Portugal but the one in Sesimbra looks quite colourful.Best regards, Tolga

A nice explosion of vivid colours. The difference between the red of all the hair of the clowns and the cool colours of the balloons is also a remarkable element.
