Photographer’s Note

Following my series around the streets of Seixal, this one is a photo of a street where almost only its inhabitants and some cars pass.
As you can see on the photo many of its inhabitants still have the habit of hanging their clothes on the house frontages even at the street floors, without any fear that they are stolen by some passers.
Most of the frontages have a decaying appearance as most of them belong or to old persons which don't have the needed resources to restore them, or they belong to some rich guys from the district which are more interested that they fall down by themselves and so they can build up a brand new house or building and sell them.
It's really sad to say this but it's the truth and this could only have an end when the authorities start to act and forbide once for all this kind of behaviour, more because with these acts they are stealing what the city has of most appealling its charm and its unique architectural diversity.
If they restore them and sell them, ok no problem at all it's their property and I totally agree they get the income from it, but leaving them simply abandoned so that they build a brand new and ugly building it's surely not the best way to act and to contirbute for the city.
