Photographer's Note

Here we can see a worker collecting the fleur de sel in the Complex of Salt Ponds from Samouco, situated on the southern bank of the Vasco da Gama Bridge, right opposite Lisbon.
This was once an area where salt was largely collected. Now, this activity has practically disappeared in this area, but since the 90's of the 20th century, when Vasco da Gama Bridge was built (we can see it in background), a Foundation has been created to keep a Nature Reserve here, where some salt ponds are still kept and the many birds species who come to find food in these wet lands are protected and studied. Several donkeys from Miranda can also be found here.
