Rainy clouds and rainbow Photo

Photographer’s Note

The winter has arrived and with it the non-stop raining. I have been anxious all week for some trekking, although the weather forecast was not very good. I couldn’t be another weekend without walking in the countryside, so I did it anyway. I got a lot of rain and got soaked, but the sun also came out from in between the clouds, and the most amazing rainbow formed.

The shot was taken around the outskirts of Palmela, a very nice village 30km southeast of Lisbon, with a beautiful castle on the top of a hill, right in the centre of this photo. On the right side we can see some very nice old windmills transformed into houses.

It was raining while I was shooting, but on the other side of the valley it was sunny, and a beautiful rainbow filled up the sky in a complete arc from side to side. My camera couldn’t get it all in the photo, so I chose the best side of it. I had to be fast, in order to get the colours in its best and to not get the camera too wet.

nice shot. very interesting gray clouds which located top of the your picture. i like it very much. rainbow is beautiful.

Muy buena la foto. Desde el punto de vista a la composición, pasando por otros detalles como la luz y el color (da la impresión que el foco de luz caiga solo sobre el pueblo).
Además el paisaje (cielo y arcoiris incluído) está realmente bien.

The rainbow was realy missing in the thumbnail, because of which so-many give a skip. very nice shot with the rainbow, dark cloud and shining hill.

Il fallait faire vite pour obtenir cette très belle prise de vue.

Olá Ricardo, uma imagem muito bem capturada. Especialmente pelas dimensões do arco-íris. A foto tem muitos contrastes entre partes bem iluminadas e outras mais escuras. O formato panorâmico foi uma escolha ótima, já que equilibra muito bem com a paisagem. Bom trabalho! Abraço, Gabriel

Hello Ricardo, this is a nice capture of this rainbow, it frames the scene well. You have caught just the right moment with the hilltop buildings illuminated by the sun.

Dramatic effect here and I like the rainbow. The clouds are nice and heavy and this makes the scene more impressive. The composition works nicely too. Good work.

A dramatic shot of this hilltop scene. Great ambience here with the threatening sky and rainbow and the sun casting a warm glow on the brown hillside and village. Your panorama format suits this very well. The DOF is good and allows the eye to wander far into the distance to the plains beyond. Well done.

Excellent compo here Ricardo. The sharpness is OK, but the rainbow makes the image extremely atractive..add to that the light on the top of the hill & the castle with shadows below

A imagem mais inesperada e uma das mais bonitas que já vi de Palmela. As três ou quatro "camadas" de céu/nuvens dão um belo efeito, mesmo que não tivesse arco-íris.
