Palmela, a photo from Setubal, South

Photographer's Note

This old windmill, converted into a lovely dwelling, is where I stayed with a university friend way back in 1969 (I think). His mother owned the mill, and we stayed in an old barn just below it. This was shot on and old Yashica "J" with Kodak transparency film, scanned on a Nikon dedicated film scanner at high resolution, to give a large digital file (100mg, 16 bit). It needed a bit of a clean in Photoshop, otherwise it's as it came out of the camera 44 years ago. Rory's mum was an old hippie: I think that's a cannabis plant by the sunflowers...

Oh, what wonderful memories this picture must rekindle for you! I'm just trying to imagine how I would have felt 40 odd years ago if the mum of one of my pals had been a hippie and smoked hash! Brilliant!

And what a fabulous photograph too - a real tribute to the longevity of good ol' Kodachrome - it really was fabulous film. Just a little bit of "grain" in the sky but otherwise perfectly acceptable quality and your picture has good composition, lovely colours and perfect exposure (which it always had to have - transparency film was very unforgiving exposure-wise).

At first glance I did not like the photo, but exactly what I first saw as flaws: too much cropped windmill, which occupied the whole picture, and unsightly foreground, make it very interesting!

Congratulations for these nice picture almost 44 year old and perfect scanned image of the windmill.
I was that already more than ten year to work 1969, 50 year is so passed my friend.
Your picture is very well taken.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
Lovely composition, good presentation too.
